2 Channel SS Preamp Suggestions
Try and find a used Conrad-Johnson PFR. A great SS preamp that has many inputs and is very musical. Should be able to find one for around $1000. I have one and am very pleased with it.
Best speakers for $500 or less
Sound Dynamics 300ti. Not often found on Audiogon--keep your eyes pealed.
Powering Audio Physic Virgos
Try getting hold of a pair of CJ Premier 12 monoblocs. They work superbly with these speakers!
tuner mugs
So does the Pioneer TX-9500II! And it performs and sounds excellent too!
How do you clean your speaker grills?
Take 'em off and throw 'em in the closet. They get in music's way most of the time.
How long did it take to get your dream system?
Since Junior High, now I am 43!
Is pure class A ss the equal to tubes?
Listen for yourself and then make up your mind. This method prevents most cognitive dissonance.
Smoother integrated for JMLabs Chorus 706?
Try a Creek 5350SE. A buddy of mine has one with the Chorus; a great match IMO.
CEC Transport
IMO, Muse or Theta will be around for some time.
Worst remote nomination...
Muse's remote for the Model Eight transport and the Connie-J remote for the PFR preamp. CHEESY and totally illogical layouts on both.
Just wondering
IT IS A SCAM! I played one out all the way to receiving the check. One look at it told me it was not authentic. I wrote the guy an email and told him that I was FBI and that I was on his trail! Never heard from him again.
Help Static Noise From Speaker
1) Yes, absolutely.2) You've got static noise, so it doesn't matter which component(s) are reacting with the lamp. You need to simply NOT use the lamp when listening to your music .3) No, if it is not high in volume.
Recommendations for speaker stand filler
If you use pure quartz mason sand, open the bag and dry it for a few days in a warm/hot dry environment you should not have any moisture problems. I don't and my sand filled speaker stands have been in use for 10 years!
Preamps. Do we really need them?
Technically no; however, musically maybe. Some preamps, especially active ones add a sense of body and PRAT to the music that doesn't come from a direct connection to an amp.
Am I imagining things?
My belief is that cable directionality is pretty much a hoax and makes little/no difference because the audio signal passing through a conductor is AC and changes direction half of the time so electrons are flowing in both directions. Something to...
