What's the oldest piece of gear in your system? My oldest piece of gear is a Nakamichi LX-5 3-head stereo cassette deck circa 1982. And Antmo, I too had a Pioneer TX-9500II stereo tuner which my parents now have and still use. It is a great sounding tuner.
Comments on PS Audio Cables Your last statement says it all!
Cables - Where to begin? A good source for "trying before buying" cables is The Cable Company (www.fatwyre.com). They sell both new and used cables as well as lending them out for trial.
Opinions on Electrocompaniet Amps I heard the new EC amps in Chicago and frankly, was not impressed with them. They sounded too analytical and amusical for my taste. IMO, I believe the other brands in your list above are substantially better sounding.
What bugs you most about sound quality? Yes, compression is a BIG problem in recording. Also, cymbal sounds coming out of one or both loudspeakers instead of between them where the drumkit is generally located. I hate that--makes the music sound fake and not real and life-like. Is that ...
does high end system need expensive speaker cable NO. Expensive doesn't always mean better.
biamping.. better long ICs or Speaker Cables? I have long ICs and short spkr. cables. My ICs are 6 meters each and spkr. cables are 6 ft. each. I have no problems with RF or EMI and no problems with too much capacitance or resistance. YMMV.

Has VPI quit supporting the HW series turntable ? I sure as hell hope not! I have an HW-19 Mk. III and am not planning on buying a new table anytime soon.
Revel Studio, Legacy Whispers, B&W N802 Legacy Whispers sound best in my opinion. Revel Studio is nice but not worth the price and B&W, to me, always sounded on the dry side. My 2 cents.
amp upgrade Both of the pieces you are interested in have been reviewed on-line or by one of the Stereo rags. I would go to each's Website and see if they have any links to reviews. Also, and the best method, is to audition them both and decide with your own ...
Toslink vs. Coax Coax has been consistently voted as being the better of the two connections. To my ears coax is much better sounding than Toslink.
Pre amp for Parasound 2200 II Stick with your PLD-2000. I don't think you can necessarily better it within your price range.
Can speakers be too good? too good is better and too better is best. |
