Watt Gives? @ctwith3 Those amplifiers were owned across the years, even now. I just rebuilt a Sumo Polaris and a GAS Grandson, both with very high quality parts and they both responded very well. I'm surprised how good these old amps sound. But I've ha...
Watt Gives? @speakermaster I have owned maybe 25 amplifiers manufactured between 1976 and 2000. While I will say that amplifier design has not significantly improved since then, the quality of parts has, outputs transistors, capacitors etc. I find that ...
Watt Gives? I have owned a Belles Aria, it is a very well designed amplifier. It does have solid bass, smooth, detailed midrange and good extended top end. The amp design is one of Dave Belles's better. What I believe that you are mistaking for volume is Dyn...
phase linear 500 watt per chanell amp I’ve never heard this amp, but have sat in on a few discussions of it. I am under the impression that Bob did all the design work. The amplifier does seem to be unstable as it sits, but several mods have been done to change the wiring and groundi...
thoughts on the bose 501 speakers I sold these in 1979. At that time, I found them to be fairly balanced sounding. I had better things in our show room. ESS, Acoustic Research, DLK and a few others that would throw a similar sound stage, but clearly imaged better.
Open Baffle Opinions - I Won't go back to Boxed Speakers Evr Again (maybe....) Seal the midbass in a small stuffed box, change the crossover between the mids and woofers to 120. 2500 is fine on top. You are getting that free air woofer out of the vocal range. Leave the woofer free air. Everything will snap into place instant...
Anyone's tried repairing/upgrading original Vandersteen 1 speakers? Carefully space your fingers evenly around the dustcap of the good woofer, push in gently and feel what the travel feels like, it should move easily and you should not feel any rubs. Now go to the suspect woofer and do the same. If it feels any d...
Tekton versus Klipsch @charles1dad Hi Charles, you are correct and we don’t see much discussion either. The truth is, I really don’t believe most designers have delve deeply into series crossover networks.... I’ve done a fair amount of work and have come up with Truth’...
Tekton versus Klipsch I came very close to producing a speaker for production, a 95db 5 ohm 15 inch 2 way. I wanted a very high value speaker and I looked long and hard at producing high quality sound while cutting cost where I could. I built 4 different prototype ca...
Class D amps that are superior to all or most? @jeales Your statement about frequency response varies by load on class D amps is not necessarily true. I have now built 11 different Class D amplifiers. 3 of them are very good and 2 of them, I was able to modify or add PFFB circuitry. I...
transistor pre with the sound of tubes SST AmbrosiaCoda 07xThe reviews called the Ambrosia "Tubister" The Ayre above would also be good.
Would you buy a piece of gear with a defect? I do, I normally look at what the repair would cost from a reputable shop, then offer according to about 15 to 20 percent below used market value. Then I do the repair myself. In my opinion to buy something and go through all of the time and tr...
Best Midbass woofer for solid 30hz - 2khz @mozartfan...... sorry, I can't do this anymore, you are a waste of time. You have no interest in learning.
Best Midbass woofer for solid 30hz - 2khz There are certainly a few that can get you close... So does size matter? 6 to 8 inch? Do you need something that rolls off smooth at 2k or is something that needs crossover work ok? Also, there are things that get you into the 30's but flat down...
ClarityCap ESA vs RelCap (ex multicap) This won't help you a bit, but I thought it could help to get others to chime in. I have used both, but in very different situations. I have used RelCap in Power Supply bypass in amplifiers. I have used ESA in speakers. I can say that both did... |
