CD out: Digital or Analog? It depends on the quality of the DACs in the B&K. Listen to it both ways and see what you think. I've generally found that a quality CD player will sound better on it's analog outputs than through a piece of home theater gear.
Best Cables for Linn The Linn Interconnects are really excellent with their gear. Very hard to beat for the price. Consider the Linn Silver in bulk. I've also had good results with Kimber Select (copper and silver), VDH First Ultimate and Wireworld Eclipse.
Beatles Gold CD's MFSL never released any Beatles music on CD, anywhere. I own both the "Italian" and "Japanese" versions, and I can assure you that they are not a genuine MOFI product. The Japanese fakes are beter than the Italian ones though. Don't be fooled!
Beatles Gold CD's I can tell you from my experience that MFSL did not release any Beatles CDs, they're all fakes. I don't know for sure if Capitol or Apple did any special remastered CDs, but I doubt it.
Sand or Lead shot To my knowledge, all lead shot sold in the U.S. is plated with Bismuth. The risk of toxicity is minimal. Lead is most toxic when it is part of compound that can easily be absorbed by the body, such as tetraethyl lead that was once used in gasoline...
Linn Ikemi CD Player vs. Other Lower Cost Options I've had an Ikemi, and I don't think there's any one box player less or equally expensive that will better it. I did find that the Chord DAC64 was a considerable improvement over the Ikemi, but you will have to have some sort of transport.
New TT for around 2000--- need some advice Why don't you look into an LP12, the TT design that all others aspire to improve upon, and it's still around after 30 years! For two grand, you could probably get an awesome setup (including cartridge). You also won't have to worry about getting s...
wilson benesch ARC vs. Harbeth compact 7ES? Advice I would advise you to by all means to get the ARCs. The ARCs will outperform any other monitor, period. There is no "box" sound whatsoever, and the bass extension is quite remarkable given the size of the speaker. Think about Chord, Rowland or EAR...
BNC to RCA You should be able to get them at any well stocked electronics supply store. Go to www.altex.com and find part number 7510. They're $1.50 each.
Audiophile Gold import CD's? I bought the "Italian" MFSL Beatles collection. They are obvious fakes and the sound quality is very poor, far worse than the plain CDs in the stores. The "Japanese" versions are also fakes but have sound quality about equal to the regular commerc...
Planet 2000 Interconnect, please help I've used DH Labs, Harmonic Tech, Alpha Core and Analysis Plus interconnects with a Planet 2000. I agree that the DH Labs and Harmonic Tech interconnects are a poor match for the player. If you're looking for some upper frequency boost, the Analys...
Using subs as speaker stands ? If you are in a rather small space, you probably don't need two subs anyway. Get one and some good stands for your monitors. Place the sub somewhere in between the monitors for optimium soundstaging.
Are you going to buy the Rolling Stones SACDs? The stones were never my favorite either. There are several greatest hits disks amongst those released. Since they are hybrids, and I don't own many of their albums or CDs, I decided to try a few. I do wonder how much of this is exploitation, but ...
Cable vs. Electronics: biggest bang for the buck Sean, you bring up some interesting points. However, you're actually agreeing with me in that a cable can only influence the performance of a component in an adverse way. I wouldn't dismiss a component as "junk" because its' performance is negativ...
Cable vs. Electronics: biggest bang for the buck A cable can only color or subtract from the quality of your component's output, it can never improve upon it. The laws of physics, not opinion or marketing hype, govern the transmission of electrons through a wire. I am not, however, claiming that... |
