One Box CD Player or EAD with new Chord 64
I own DAC 64 and love it. It is fast, detailed and uncolored, without the harsh "digitized" sound of some upsampling DACs out there. In my experience, the DAC 64 sounds good with almost anything used as a transport. The Levinson sounds artificiall...
I need your expert advise
I think you should do some serious listening to you system. Sometimes, the music is disappointing because the recording and mastering are poor. I've noticed that some tunes that I love sound just awful on my system. It's not my system's fault, bec...
Most eye-opening upgrade and what you learned
There are innumerable, outrageously expensive tweaks and cables available to choose from. In my experience, none are the panacea that some would suggest. The first step is to experiment with placement of your speakers, as this simple adjustment ca...
Audiophile Changer: Cool or Hopeless Compromise?
I'll second Kira's recommendation of the Dan Wright modified SCD 333 ES for use as a transport.
Help me with a fully balanced DAC
Try the Chord DAC 64. It's absolutely stunning. I've heared various MSB and Theta units, and this will blow them away. It has balanced and unbalanced outputs as well as AES/EBU, SPDIF (BNC) and Toslink inputs. Retail is around $3000
Rap music on high-end speakers
Tru,You should try the Linn Komri speakers. They'll rock da' house!T.H.
Linn Ikemi or Nu-vista 3d to replace a Linn Genki?
Keep your Genki, forget the Ikemi and Nuvista, and get a Chord DAC 64. The Genki will make a good transport. The Chord DAC is extremely close to the CD 12 and costs only about $3000. Within the last 18 months, I have bought a Genki, upgraded to th...
Is my dealer lying to me?
I think the Cambridge is a very nice player for the money. I friend of mine has one, and I really can't think of any budget players that sound any better. In my opinion, you should get the very best source components that you can reasonably afford...
Nick Drake: incredible sonics
I just picked up "Fruit Tree," the four disk Nick Drake box set, which is 24/192 remastered. The set is really great, and they are some of the best sounding CDs I've ever heard. Highly recommended.
Any great speakers out there?
Wilson Benesch Arc or Discovery. I've never heard speakers that are so uncolored and transparent as these.
Chord Dac
Chris,I am a fortunate owner of one of the few Chord DAC 64s in the U.S. It is a tremendously wonderful piece of equipment. I cannot praise it enough. My dealer tried to convince me that the Linn CD 12 is better, but not to my ear. I ditched my Li...
IC suggestions between Linn Ikemi CDP and Plinius 8150
Joel,I used to have an Ikemi and experimented with several cables. I felt that it sounded good with several different ones. The best was the Cardas Golden Cross, but it is really too expensive for what you get, and it is very stiff and difficult t...
Dallas Texas High End?
Check out Audio Concepts in Dallas (my favorite dealer) for Linn, Chord, ProAc and Acoustic Research gear, Audio Insight in Plano for Levinson, Wadia, Classe and Aerial Acoustics, John Fort Audio Video in Richardson for McCormack, some neat tube g...
Buy a DAC or buy an SACD player?
Invest in a good DAC. I recently purchased one of the new Chord DAC 64s from my local dealer for about $3000. Connected to my Arcam DV88 it comes so close to a $12,000 Linn CD 12 that I ditched my Ikemi. It will be years before there is enough SAC...
laid back, warm interconnects with tight bass clean highs
Try a Wireworld Polaris, preferrably a series one or two. You can probably get one for about a hundred bucks, far less than some of the admittedly good, but overpriced Cardas products.T.H.
