Will I be a jaw dropping Wow for an upgraded CDP? There's little doubt that you would find even a mass market consumer CD player a big step up from your Walkman. Your system is plenty good enough to justify a much better source. If you're not looking to spend too much cash, look for a used Sony 3...

Replace DVD or add dedicated CD? You might consider getting a stand alone DAC to improve CD sound. Use the Toslink digital output for DVD surround sound and the coaxial digital out to the DAC and then connect the DAC to one of the analog inputs on your preamp/processor. BelCanto ...

Subwoofer to go with Triangle Celius I'd think about a Rega Vulcan (made by REL) or an REL Strata II or III. They're both very musical and could probably be found used in your price range. I haven't had the opportunity to hear the Triangle sub though.
Speaker recommendation for Rega Mira Don't overlook the Rega Jura speakers. They match well with Mira and are quite revealing with good soundstaging. At the price (often $700 or less new), they are a great value. I think they'd suit your father's muscial taste well.
Sony SCDXA777ES vs Sony SCD1 ? I'll agree to disagree with Czbbcl. You might want to check with Dan Wright at modwright.com about the differences between the players and get his advice. He's quite knowledgeable about both, and I bet he'll tell you to go with the XA-777ES. I've ...
Sony SCDXA777ES vs Sony SCD1 ? As I understand, the SCD-1 does not have the the triple paralleled DACS as does the XA-777ES, because the SCD-1 is a two channel only machine having only one DAC per channel. The XA-777ES also has newer more advanced DACs than the SCD-1. In multic...
Quality of Sony SACD players as CD transports I have used several different Sony players as transports with excellent results. Currently the XA-777ES is is my system, but I previously had a Dan Wright modified SCD-333ES. I think either could compete with dedicated transports costing far more....
Your thoughts on J. Atkinsons Chord DAC review...? The Stereophile review only confirms how poor some of their equipment recommendations can be. Certainly, personal tastes and preferences can lead to different opinions and conclusions, but I've gotten far better advice from my local dealer and fel...
Best On-Line source for SACD's Try www.superaudio-cd.com. They keep a list of all available SACD titles. Prices are not too bad for a company based in Britain.
Use a gDVD/CD player as transport with a good DAC? I agree with Tarsando. Get a used SACD player and even consider the Dan Wright (www.modwright.com) transport modifications. You get SACD playback capability as a bonus. My understanding is using a DVD player as CD a transport leads due increased j...
Inexpensive Tri-Wire Cables As far as I know, Linn K600 is the most inexpensive triwire cable available. It is not pretty, but it looks like it means business, and it sounds great!
Power cord adapter for video components Audusa (a British company)can supply excellent power cords with the "figure eight" connectors that you need. I have been very pleased with their Eupen ferrite shielded power cables. They terminate the other end with a Hubbel hospital grade plug fo...
I need a bright detailed 300 used speaker cable Analysis plus copper oval cables would probably have the effect you want. |
