What's the best approach? Seriously, what are your goals for the system? Is it to be 2 channel or surround? What's the budget? All of these are important questions that your have to answer before meaningful advice can be given. I am also a believer in the "source first" sc...
What's the best approach? Wow! What DVD player did you buy 16 years ago:)
Advice wanted Here's my two cent's worth. I think you're looking for an excellent-sounding, user-friendly system. I'd go with a used Linn Classik for amp/CD duties and a Rega P2 with Super Bias cartridge and NAD phonostage for vinyl. When you're ready, go with ...
Preamps - Kairn and others The Kairn is a wonderful preamp. I have no experience with the built in phonostage, although I understand that it is quite good. I don't think that you could go wrong with one, and it would definitely improve your system. I thought the Kairn was a...
Difference between Audiomeca Mephisto 1 and II The II is one better than the I.
Rega Planet or Cairn Fog The Planet 2000 is a great player for the money. I played it until the floor shook in my system and it never skipped. Inexpensive Alpha Core Micro Purl copper interconnects worked great with it. I've never heard the Frog player but beware of Frenc...
Inexpensive tweak I've always found that regurgitated dry cat food has been more benefical for my components than regurgitated canned cat food. Purina kitten formula is by far the best in my auditioning so far.
ARC LS25 MkII vs. ARC Ref MkII?? I've owned an LS25 MkII and extensively auditioned the Ref 2 MKII. The Ref2 is definitely better. I think it does image somewhat more clearly and retrieves more detail. I thought the bass was about the same, a little loose on both. Whether it is w...
Setting VTA on a new Shelter 901? That sounds like a pretty precise instrument, very interesting.
Setting VTA on a new Shelter 901? How can you possibly tell that the back is down only one to two degrees? Such discrimination is impossible with the naked eye and likely at the limits of tolerance with even the most advanced turntable setup tools. I hope this thread is a joke.
The Year of the Universal Player I'm really happy that the universal disk players are finally coming out. However, I have little or no interest in video playback, and the higher end units will incorporate several thousand dollars' worth of video circuitry for which I have no use....
Monitor speakers for a change I'll second the ARCs. They're amazing speakers.
Should I buy a third Linn lk85. Absolutely get the third LK85 and go aktiv. When you can afford it, get a used Kairn Pro and a better CD player. I liked my Genki, but as Ikemi prices seem to be coming down, I'd hold out for the Ikemi. I agree with Dedicatedaudio, there's nothing...
Wilson Benesch Arc Speakers? I owned the ARCs before I upgraded to the ACT Ones a few months ago. Believe me, they are TREMENDOUSLY impressive speakers. I was simply amazed by their accuracy, transparency and absolute absence of box coloration. They were the first speakers I ...
Looking to upgrade from receiver A used Linn Majik would also be good in that price range. |
