LYRA DELOS CARTRIDGE TOO BRIGHT, THIN AND SHRILL SOUNDING
My apologies for taking the bait @lewm when the OP stated MC's are overrated.  I should I have taken the high road.
LYRA DELOS CARTRIDGE TOO BRIGHT, THIN AND SHRILL SOUNDING
I think moving coils are overrated. I think we have found the crux of the issue here in terms of the sound the OP prefers.  It's all a matter of preference and what sounds good but I suspect his tastes lean towards less resolving and a hint of ...
Jazz Music Question
Definitely hard bop.  I'd say he's most similar to Jackie McLean, Joe Henderson, and Dexter Gordon...and listen to Sonny Rollins too.
LYRA DELOS CARTRIDGE TOO BRIGHT, THIN AND SHRILL SOUNDING
I have a Lyra Kleos and have used a Hana ML in the past. There is no doubt by comparison the Lyra provides a more hifi presentation while the Hana is more neutral. I now go back and forth between my Shelter 7000 and Lyra Kleos depending on whether...
VAC preamps - too expensive?
@jumia I'm sure there is a Denon amp with a feature-packed remote that will more than meet your needs at a fraction of the cost of a VAC.  I'm so glad that VAC didn't needlessly place additional wiring and circuitry into my amp that could only deg...
Vintage vs New
Poking my head back in this forum once every 6 months and nothing has changed just like a 40 yr running soap opera.  Same characters, same script, same drama....In many instances, vintage speakers took a completely different approach than modern d...
VAC preamps - too expensive?
The great thing about VAC is that they take a Formula One approach to product development.  No holds barred on the Statement preamp and then allowing much of the technology to drop down into the Renaissance MKV - which is what I own.  I picked min...
To use a preamp with my Line Magnetic 805 integrated amp, or not?
I've only tried one preamp with my LM805ia and that's the VAC Renaissance MKV.  Pretty substantial improvement over running the LM as an integrated.  I really was hoping that I didn't hear a huge difference because I could have sold my VAC and bee...
Help me choose a speaker match for my Line Magnetic 805ia tube amp under $10K
For the past year I’ve been driving my O/96’s with a LM805ia via the 16 ohm taps. Wonderful out of the box, I have it dialed in so magically right now by rolling all tubes I can’t imagine making a gear change for the foreseeable future. Wonderful ...
Perfect Speaker Placement - Put next to the back wall as much as possible.
It's the new year we've all been waiting for...sadly MC continues his arrogance and mean-spirited contributions just like 2020 and all years prior.  Sigh..
Tweaking Cary SLP-98P F1 Preamp
You put them under the chassis.  I have not used EVP blocks but I have compared the Rollerblock Jr's to BDR cones/pads, Isoacoustics Orea's, and Golden Sound ceramic cones.  Rollerblocks were clear winner in every case.  Plus they aren't terribly ...
Tweaking Cary SLP-98P F1 Preamp
I’ve been amazed by the improvements I have gained through using Symposium Rollerblock Jr’s under my VAC tube preamp. I think the Cary preamp will benefit as well speaking as a former SLP-98P owner (not F1). My Cary came across a bit lush and lack...
A deeper more holographic soundstage.
Assuming your room acoustics and speaker positioning are dialed in, I have found that 3D imaging can be improved with tube rolling and using Rollerblock Jr's.  Similar to tvad I'm referring of course to tube gear.
Mistakes I’ve made
@zavato   Mind if I borrow some gear?  I have excellent references.
Does benchmark dac sound good if don't like oppo dac sound?
Qutest is considered by many to be warmer thank Mytek and Benchmark.  So I doubt you will like either the Mytek or Benchmark better if you found the Qutest too bright. It sounds like your listening priorities are more dialed into the way you have ...
