I like the way "Rare" is used as if somehow rare equals good - always.
Neil Young’s Lonely Quest to Save Music
I agree with Neil as well.  Low quality streaming is like eating heavily processed food - it's not really food - it's food-like substances.
Conrad Johnson Premier 140 fuse is blown
Straight from the CJ Premier 140 manual:What happens when the fuse blows? If one of these fuses should blow, it usually indicates a marginal output tube (one of four for each channel odd numbered tubes for the right channel, even numbered tubes fo...
Has anyone finally decided to sell their Turntable and Vinyl collection?
Money always seems like a poor replacement for something that natures one’s soul. I regret selling my 1978 Gibson Les Paul Custom in college. That’s why I will never sell my Fender Stratocaster I bought 6 months later at age 19. I can’t imagine ev...
30.7 MAGNEPAN Tour in Indy
I'd go if I could but I have a schedule conflict.  I only live 15 minutes from Ovation.  It would be nice to connect with others in person.  Doesn't happen often!
Imported audio are you getting the same level of performance vs domestic priced equip?
Generalizations probably won’t work here. I’m in the US and feel that the bang for the buck on my Slovenian Kuzma Stabi S is tough to beat by a US manufacturer. Conversely I don’t know anyone abroad making a phono stage that competes with the US-m...
Spendor D7
Love my D7s.  They pair remarkably well with tubes in the case of my system - fantastic for bringing out the textures in acoustic jazz but can also rock out when needed.  The break-in time is at least 200 hours to soften an initial treble edge but...
The Poll Winners Ride Again!
Thanks for the nice recommendation.  I gave it a listen tonight.  I really need to listen to Barney Kessel a bit more...I always forget about him.  Really excellent sonics as you point out.  This tracks are quite straightforward bop and not exactl...
Is it the amp or the wiring?
Have you ruled out an issue with your left speaker connection?  Literally the terminals and wire at the speaker?
Audio Reviewers
and this is exactly why a forum like this is so valuable.  No one is sending me (and probably hardly any of you) equipment for you to review and post your reviews on this forum.  Unfiltered feedback...both positive and negative.
Carver, THE standard of excellence IMO
Nobody says "fires" and then references "insurances companies" without being literal in the chosen words.  That was disgraceful.  I'm surprised the Mods haven't removed his post yet so it doesn't cause further harm to the manufacturer.
Buyer is claiming damage that was done by him!
This does sound fishy as described by seller but there's one thing I don't understand.  Why would he inadvertently damage one speaker grill and then move onto the second grill and damage it in the exact same way?  It just seems like if the damage ...
Primaluna EVO 300 or Carey 120S MKII?
I have a Cary CAD120S MKII and find it quite musical paired with Spendor D7s.  As jp mentioned above, the Cary amp would be a perfect match with the SLP-05.  Both fully differentially balanced with impedance and gain paired well.  I'm using a VAC ...
AMP or Preamp
@davekay I would start with amps first. 2 large mono blocks and 2 mono block tubes. Once you have your base , go for a preamp that best suits your needs. A cherry on top sort of speak. He only wants to spend $5K-$7K.  It seems that a used integ...
AMP or Preamp
I'm not sure tubes would be the best match with those Wilsons.  Perhaps I'm looking at the wrong specs but I think they dip all the way down to 1.9ohms.  I would think a used Ayre SS integrated may be a nice way to stay in your budget and get some...
