I blew up my receiver. Now what?
Sorry for your bad news JMK. But don’t let these guys get you down. I’ll bet most of them learned by doing the same damned thing, or something pretty much like it.I know a very senior electronics genius - control systems for big time nuke research...

Moving to France
@asvjerry On reflection, more to it, I think. California is seen as 'The Big Time' for more reasons than Hollywood, aerospace, and what used to be the climate. That is the University of California, probably the best university system ever. Decade ...

@asvjerry As you point out, California is the accent of TV and the movies. It is therefore usually perceived as sophisticated, in my experience.

Hilde, you wrote, "They need to think hard about who they are and why they choose to act that way. They demean themselves."I wonder about "demean themselves" - as Bob Dylan said - "never tumbles, got no place to fall."
Speaker upgrade question.
Look up DIYAudio, thread entitled "Kef Reference Model 3 Schematic."
Speaker upgrade question.
Any decent tech can do it. You just need to get him a schematic. All he has to do is lay it out (because the components are bigger) and solder. And test, of course. What about the dealer who sold you the KEF's? His service tech is probably damned g...
Speaker upgrade question.
I point out that you’ll have to spend BIG bucks to get the same refined sound direct from a manufacturer. Whereas the crossover upgrade is well within your budget.I've done it with Magnepans, I've done it with Quad ESL's. Always a significant impr...
Speaker upgrade question.
A few years ago my neighbour had the same question about his KEF103's. I suggested that he spend some money improving the crossover components; that is, changing cheap capacitors for fine audiophile capacitors, etc. The sort of thing that no manuf...

To the OP: yes, a toroidal step-down transformer is just the ticket. I suggest sizing it at about half again the total 'wattage' of your components. Plitron used to sell good ones, but they have become pretty hard to deal with - you could try.Drin...

Yes. I make a point of not reading anything MC writes, but he cunningly camouflaged himself with a short post, so I too was afflicted. Yecch. I feel dirty.
How do you know when an LP is a first or early pressing?
Mglik, I think that you are correct to be wary of ’hot stampers’. To my mind, the history of a record is a lot more important than its stamper: you know, what kind of blunt stylus was used to play it, if it was used as a dog’s frisby, and so on.Le...
Think fast: What would you take?
Q: What would you take?A: Phono cartridges, papers, and changes of comfortable clothes. And that very special bottle of burgundy.Sympathy, luck, and best wishes to you, Oregon. Sorry you had to see the local narcissists and other vermin climb out ...
