Turntable upgrade recommendations: SME vs AMG vs Technics vs other You are in a very good space. I suggest that for $2500 more you can avoid making a costly mistake and find audio Nirvana. Take a listening holiday to NY and hear some turntables. Find what YOU like, not what someone else likes. Also, suggest bei...
Interesting information from Analog Planet on Stylus Cleaner Onzow Zero Dust. @daveyf Alas, we have no idea how many of them perceived something but did nothing about it. Perhaps they had no access to a good lab, Perhaps they put it down to stylus wear.
Interesting information from Analog Planet on Stylus Cleaner Onzow Zero Dust. I've seen a stain form on my graphite platter when exposed to a gel which looks and feels a lot like Zero-dust. So I would take @mijostyn 's caution seriously. As for waiting until the cantilever is so bunged up with goop that you can hear it, we...
Interesting information from Analog Planet on Stylus Cleaner Onzow Zero Dust. @dover Yes, I can believe that about fluid residue. Before I had my Koetsu photomicrographed, I cleaned it with 95% pure ethanol. 40 hours later the pump on the electron microscope couldn't pull a sufficient vacuum because of off-gassing - and t...
Silver v Copper wire phono cable @dover Well, that's one opinion. So elegantly put. And with such certainty. Convince many people, Dover?
Silver v Copper wire phono cable From the Koetsu website: "The coils of the Rosewood Signature Platinum are made of 6N copper wire, painstakingly clad with a silver jacket."
Your Favorite Christmas Song-One only Please- Thank you, @akg_ca . That's uplifting in a barren season. "Julsang" by Marianne Melnas, on Cantate Domino (Proprius).
You Cant Buy It but you Can Build It That's how I feel about my system, all analogue. Mostly built by me, the ESL speakers heavily modified. The cartridge remains in original condition. The satisfaction is only part of it - you just can't buy much which is made without compromise.
Solid state amp recommendations for Maggies? Bryston. Talk to the factory for factory reconditioned pieces - they pack a 5 year warrantee on top of anything remaining from the original sale. I am currently using a 4SST for a sub and a MP woofer in the HT - and it's very, very good.
RCA interconnect recommendation Cables are the worst bang for buck in the system. If you feel the need to spend much more money, you would do much better to upgrade a component. That said, cables do sound subtley different. Since you already have cabling that works, I suggest t...
Turntable versus tonearm versus cartridge: which is MOST important? Don’t quite understand, Raul. What parameters, other than the physical, do you mean?
Turntable versus tonearm versus cartridge: which is MOST important? Agree with most of what you say, but the increment from a 10K turntable to a 3D air bearing was huge. Same tonearm, same cartridge.
Turntable versus tonearm versus cartridge: which is MOST important? Let's just forget about argument by analogy. This question has three components: physics, psychology (perception and taste), and economics (bang for the buck). Only the last is easy, because cartridges wear out. Psychology is obviously personal. ...
Can You Hear Me Now Agreed, before we can discuss this intelligently we need to see the documentation. And hear the implementation. Hence my question.
The return of the DIYer Thing about DIY is that you can afford technology that you otherwise couldn't. Anybody priced turntables with air bearings in all 3 dimensions lately? Or phonos with vacuum capacitors? |
