How reliable are EAR amps
Jeffb28451,Thanks for your feedback. I've heard stories about EAR in the past but I never had them verified. I also recently talked with the distributor and he seemed a bit aloof. I think I'm going to just keep what I have. Thanks.
Mcintosh C28 VS C712 Modern Vs Classic
Stanwal, Has a point. When I first got into audio at the age of 15 there were 2 Mac dealers in the Detroit area. When I visited them they would not give me the time of day. They had an attitude like walking into a Ferrari dealer. It really turned ...
Tubes for ARC VT100
Kevin Deal pulled the same crap on me 6 months ago. I called Music Reference in Santa Barbara and told him the story. I brought him my amp and he ran the tubes for half a day to make sure they were ok. He even cleaned and biased the amp for free. ...
Has anyone ever switched to Harbeth
Pingpong,I really like the 3.4's. I just hear so much about Harbeth nowadays I just wanted to give them a try. Maybe I should Just pick up a used pair. I Imagine there not a hard speaker to sell If I don't like them.
Has anyone ever switched to Harbeth
Pingpong,I'm currently running 3.4's. I'm just thinking about making a change.
ARC vs LFD
The pre-amp tubes last 4000 hours and they only cost 120.00 so that is not a problem. The amp tubes are replaced every 2000 hours at a cost of 500.00. It would be nice to get away from this constant maintenance. I just don't know If I would be hap...
Audio Research Reference 5 Preamp
No Money,I know companies have to come out with new gear to create sales. But ARC is notorious for coming out with 2 or 3 versions of the same unit. Example Vt-100 mkl mk2 mk3. They also change models very quickly. Other companies don't change the...
Audio Research Reference 5 Preamp
You have to hand it to ARC. They sure know how to extract cash from their clientele. They know that a certain percentage of there Ref-3 owners will trade up for the new model. I guess that's how they stay in business.
audio research ph7 & Cartridge
Don't do it. I have a ph-5 which has the same gain as your ph-7. I was running a low-output Benz cartride and the system had no dynamics. It sounded dead. I recently traded my cartrige in for the new style Benz wood body. It has medium output. The...
Are high-end manufacterers pricing themselves
It's funny you mention Virtual Dynamics. I called over there a couple of years ago and talked to the owner. He sounded like a car salesman. He had a hell of a spiel. He wanted to sell me some power cords he was discontinuing. He told me he would g...
Notice to all. Bob Williams of Audionut deceased.
I'm just saying I never heard of him before on this website. If his name was mentioned alot I probably would know who he was. I didn't mean any disrespect by my comments.
Vpi vs. TW Acustic
Hifi Gary,I meant you should try and listen to the TW Raven table. I was not telling you to buy another VPI. I understand where you are coming from.
Vpi vs. TW Acustic
Hifi Gary,I have the same table as you minus the triplanar. I have heard the table in question and I personally would not buy it. I asked Brooks about the TW Raven and he didn't have much to say about it. I would suggest finding someone that has t...
Vpi vs. TW Acustic
Hifi Gary,Is you're dealer Brooks Berdan?
Would you pay to audition speakers
After reading all your posts I've decided to pass on the 500.00 audition. I'm going to buy speakers that I can audition for free. I did call the company that produces the speaker in question. They told me that they dropped that dealer due to his b...
