Shine A Light... On A Brand New LP
You must be getting the run after the lunch break or the before the 5:00 whistle blows.
2020 Rock-N-Roll Hall Of Fame Inductees
I'm still waiting for the "Rock n Roll" part taken out of the title.Always a disappointment to read these inductee lists.Just call it the "All inclusive, everyone is a winner, because we don't want to offend anyone, list"
Are Focal Aria 926 considered to be a Hi-Fi speaker?
Let YOUR OWN EARS be the judge.Naturally, if your sources aren't decent, the expectation can't be met. I've always thought the Aria series were nice sounding speakers in their price point. The entire Focal line is solid. Setup/room of course, is p...
Any success with an indoor FM antenna?
You may be surprised what a simple, inexpensive dipole can do. Performance is like real estate-location. https://www.parts-express.com/fm-dipole-antenna-with-f-connector--210-608I get a strong 8/9 out of 10 signal strength with the Classical and J...
Vintage Western Electric cables from Naturaltonecables?
The cables looks like a garage project.  Nothing wrong with that. IMO, if I'm shelling out cash for cables, they better improve he sound AND look the part also.I have a PL HP and VPI Classic. I would advise to proceed with caution,  and not get ca...
Which cantilever to choose for re-tip
Just remember, it’s NOT going to be the same cartridge afterwards. To your ears, it could be better, different, same or anything in between. It will be a glued on to the stub of whats remaining from the original.I had a Sumiko Blackbird done with th...
MOFI Yes "Fragile" UD1S (One-Step, Supervinyl)
Cost of admission for a period,MINT Yes Fragile "stamper" makes the reissue seem like a bargain.I haven't heard any of those "super reissues" so I'm not qualified to comment on what's more convincing.I'm one of those who buy a period copy of somet...
Has anyone tried Brass cartridge mounting screws?
Wow! You're certainly a  uh..experimental type of guy.https://systems.audiogon.com/systems/6601Effects perhaps not as dramatic compared to your other findings.

"I just applied Silclear to every connection in my system..."Apologies for jacking this thread. Are we referring to the Mapleshade Silclear?I was always curious  about that stuff. There seems to be an equal amount of positive/negative experiences w...
SME 3009 II Unimporved -- "Thin" Sound
"Tablejockey -- Not sure I understand your post (?). I assume you are implying that the Schitt Mani is NOT up to the performance of the rest of the system??? Did you man something other? "wdesbrow-You can get more out of your rig with an ni...
ML ESL11A speaker placement
Think of the adjustment as a pair of binoculars.Adjust to YOUR ears. Forget the techie "scientific" explanations. It may look a little odd with one closer/further , no symmetry, but if it sounds good to your ears...go with it.
SME 3009 II Unimporved -- "Thin" Sound
Schiit Mani...it's a great $150 phonostage. I used one while the tubed unit was being repaired.A great backup phonostage for your "proper" $1K minimum(or $2K retail+ used)  This should  bring it back to life. SS or tube.Consider original or close ...
What's Worth More on the Open Market - Your Records or Your Audio Gear
I was just listening the CeeDee, and curiosity steered me to Ebay.If you had an S load of stuff like this, along with the usual R&R, Jazz, Classical etc. maybe you can make a couple of bucks for a long week in Tahiti?https://www.ebay.com/itm/S...
What's Worth More on the Open Market - Your Records or Your Audio Gear
This is an interesting subject.I can see some specific genres fetching more than a Bruce Springsteen album or a Dave Brubeck’s Time out. I’m curious if the buyer was a reseller paying $10 an album, with visions of doubling his money(at minimum) wi...
What's Worth More on the Open Market - Your Records or Your Audio Gear
Don't tell your family to hold their breath for a big cash windfall. Our LP collections are not worth what we think they should be.Never will be. Same goes for the audio gear. A very small(and shrinking) group of buyers will always be around, but l...
