High quality CDs @rman9 My mistake! immattewj is correct about MoFi not offering Clasical hybrid sacds. The Classical titles I've seen on Music Direct are on the Analogue Productions label: https://www.musicdirect.com/music?#/+/0/score/desc/?tab=products&a...
Why do folks spend more on electronics than on speakers? @mulveling +1
One guitar, or three? @bdp24 I'm really curious about what you meant when you said you find Jazz is "too urban". Care to elaborate further?
High quality CDs @rman9 MoFi does make hybrid sacd's which include a Redbook layer and they are not the only ones. Check the Music Direct and Acoustic Sounds sites.
Why do folks spend more on electronics than on speakers? Bought my current speakers in mint cond. back in 2005 for $2500. I don't know what the list on them was back then. The new version lists at $7500 per pair. At that time I had a Jolida tube integrated and Jolida tube cdp. Liked the sound. Upgrade...

“Faithful to the recording” @asvjerry I find your remarks very sensible. Even if one could afford chasing SOTA, that pursuit is not necessarily a prescription for satisfaction. As someone with a high capacity for perfectionism/obsessiveness, I'm grateful that my finances...
List some of the worst-sounding CDs you've heard, lately @spenav I can't imagine anyone considering the Kotke disc "hi rez" ; it sounds terrible. @tweak1 I feel I have to take what you you say at face value but I have no way to explain it; I've always found CD sound to vary a great deal and this h...
List some of the worst-sounding CDs you've heard, lately I thought this could be a useful thread, given the great variability in cd sonics . . .
One guitar, or three? While I agree that two is often better than one, for my tastes, a third is usually one too many. The degree of commitment required to listen carefully enough so as to stay out each-other's way is usually more than most guitarists can summon in suc...
“Faithful to the recording” @immatthewj "It seems as if every piece of gear winds up being written about in glowing orgasmic terms." In news reporting, it's the depressing stuff that garners attention and thus, brings in ad dollars. In audio, it's the "glowing orgasmic" ...
“Faithful to the recording” @mahgister "From the first acoustic lived event where any seat give another perspective on the lived acoustic event, we have AFTER the independant recording process who "manipulate" by INEVITABLE choices trade-off process this acoustic event whi...
“Faithful to the recording” @immatthewj "maybe that's why I seldom read a review anymore, except to sometimes get specs and prices of something I find interesting". When I'm contemplating an upgrade I read/watch as many reviews as I can find, in order to glean whatever in... |
