Attention all Legacy Whisper owners ?? ..just to underscore the post above by sthomas.. Ayre equipment is quite wonderful but they really have to be run in balanced mode. Single ended Ayre equipment sounds quite below what the units run balanced sounds like.
Help with upgrading speaker cables I am using Vandersteen 5A and tried many brands of cables including Kimber Select. The best were Anti-Cables - not twisted. Their performance with my components was better than Purist, Cardas, Audioquest, Analysis Plus, Wireworld, etc. They are ch...
Helicon 800 - B&W 802D I didn't hear the Helicon, however those B&W's are surely not my cup of tea. There are a great many speakers that have greater sonic attributes for far less money. Before writing your check, check all those speakers in your price range.
Vienna Mozart Grand or Beethoven Baby Grand I wouldn't worry about any damage to the amp. Most amps have an overload detection circuit that will shut the amp down if it sees too much current drain. I don't think you should have any trouble.
dead quiet I can put my ear right against the speaker grill with the preamp in the phono position with the volume control at the normal listening level for lp's and hear absolutely nothing at all. Even if I turn up the volume control, it still remains silent...
Upgrade from Vandy 2CE sigs to the sigs 2 or 3a If you like the Vandy sound why stop at the 3's. The Quatro, or 5A's are really much better still. One of the joys of owning Vandersteens is that they are upgradable...you will always have the cutting edge.
Feickert analogue protractor....Owners impressions You guys really did it. I can't stand it any longer, and have therefore ordered my MintLP protractor. If you guys made me spend 100 dollars for nothing...

does cartridge output level affect surface noise? it would be the same.. with a higher output cartridge you would turn down the volume control, but all that the cartridge is picking up would be louder...including the music, the pops and the clicks. If you use a higher output cartridge, however, y...
Twisting Anti-Cables By the way - a full twist is using 360 degrees on each twist...1/2 twist is 180 degrees at each twist.
Twisting Anti-Cables I twisted my Anti-Cables, listened, and then untwisted them. When twisted, the soundstage width and depth shrunk, and the lows were a bit sloppy. The differences are not major, but in my system, it was quite clear that the separate cables were the...
5 Years or More? I have Vandersteen 5A's. One of the great selling points of this speaker (and perhaps others in the Vandersteen line) is that when an improvement comes along, Vandersteen will install the update to the speaker. Yes, I know that sometimes to do tha...
Measure My Turntable Speed Boy do I agree with Blueranger...
Measure My Turntable Speed I just used a strobe and a neon light to adjust the speed on my table, and I can play along with the record while playing my piano. It's good enough for me |
