Speakers free of grain, glare and steel?
Speakers produce the end result of all that has come before. If your components are hard, grainy, steely, etc., you would choose a speaker that compensates for that so the end result is listenable. This philosophy is enough to drive us audiophiles...
Lyra and VPI Scout
It sounds like that Benz left a bad taste in your ears, however, the Ebony LP is one hell of a cartridge. The high output version is wonderful as well if you need the gain. I'm using the LP on a rim drive Superscoutmaster, and the sound is glorious.
RF Interferenece and hum on tonearm
Replace your cartridge. Grados can work in the right system...evidently you don't have one of those.
Best Cables for around $500
I am using XLR balanced and find Anti-Cables outstanding. They are very inexpensive, and have a money back guarantee if you don't like them. You really should audition them.
"Spitting" Cartridge problem
This doesn't sound like a cartridge problem. I'd look upstream..loose cable, bad tube, etc.
B&W 803D or 804D with ML 335
Listen to all speakers in your price range. To limit yourself to B&W's is to do yourself an injustice. You may very well be looking to do it again in the near future with a B&W product.
Need a MC Cartridge recomendation...
I know you're not going to take this advice - get your turntable off of the Gingko. If you have VPI minifeet, get rid of them too and get Bearpaws - Vermontaudio.com. You will be amazed at how different your turntable sounds. I felt that the Gingk...
Power Cords Snake Oil ??
The way I understand power is that it does NOT start at the power station, flow through wire, and then is used up in our amps, but instead the electrons push against the next electron. Its not a flow, but a miniscule exchange that is reversed ever...
HDMI - 5 m 16.5 ft -long - what to pay attention?
The following is directly from the Ayre websiteUSB Cable RequirementsPerhaps the one weakness of USB is that the maximum cable length is somewhat limited, typically 3 meters (~10') to 5 meters (~16'). We have found that one of the most common prob...
Feedback on new Ayre MX-R Monoblocks
..just what I have observed. I have an all Ayre system but with V-1xe, K1xe,C5Xemp, Vandersteen 5A's. I started with all Ayre cables, but after a friend had me listen to his Purist Anniversarys, I found those Cardas cables a poor match for my syte...
Long XLR's: PAD Venustas versus Mogami
As I have posted many times beore...there is no "best" cable. All cables sound different hooked up with different components. I just love Anti=Cables with MY components, after trying much of the top line stuff from PAD, Nordost, Kimber, Cardas, Au...
Any 5a owners?
Rpeluso...you'll realize how good the 5A's are when you get better components. (Ayre or Audio Research)
martin logan prodigy vs sound lab m-2
I agree with your findings...Soundlabs win...easy decision.
SummerTime and Amp Heat
I live in the Sonoran desert of Arizona. True, the house is air conditioned, but I have it set to 79 degress. Never has there been a problem.
Bowers & Wilkins - B&W
Before you become completely swamped by B&W's listen to as many speakers as you can within your price point so that you will be sure of your purchase. So many "audiophiles" get stuck on a brand only to find disappointment in the end.
