SACD... can you hear the difference?
Sometimes you can, sometimes you can't.....many of my Redbook CD's are better than SACD's

The market is a great screener of value/worth. I would never get an unknown product, even if their literature/reviews are wonderful. They will probably not succeed making your new component is worthless.

Moonglum.....My advice is for you to listen with and without a/s and decide which you like the best. As for me....I have done this test many times and invariably like the no a/s best. If my car needs new tires, I get them...if my cartridge needs a...

I very much agree that the Shure scale is good enough. After getting the VTF in the "ballpark", you should experiment with a little more, and a little less to find the optimum for your cartridge. All that Dougdeacon said is "golden", ...I have an ... 
floor-stander speaker for "classical"
To ME...and especially with classical music, the quality of the midrange makes the deal...I like Vandersteen. I don't think you can get better for any of the price categories that Vandy's provide.

There is no real answer as to how to adjust anti skate...there are so many variables to consider...how loud the passage is, where in the record do you measure it, stylus profile, et al.....therefore the best that can be hoped for is an average set...

Tannoy enclosures are pretty bad....they make speakers and their woodworking is not their strong point.
