Suggestions for arm to replace VPI 12.7 Sid...there is no drilling for a VPI tonearm....they just screw into the armboard...however, I would still touch base with VPI for any special instructions.
VPI Aries with non-VPI arm The early VPI 3D arms were a bear to set up, but the new ones are pretty easy. The counterintuitive, and the Fozgometer make it a foolproof proposition. ...and you really only have to set up the arm once..it never goes out of adjustment.
Vintage Thoren TD160 vs new turntables Check on VPI turntables....no better value, customer service, etc. They can get you a cartridge for their tables and mount it as well. Call/E-mail ....worth your time.
Fozgometer Thanks Jorsan....I used it a few months ago to set up a Benz LPS and it worked fine. The brand new Ortofon was internally wired incorrectly. The leads I installed match the color of the pins, and itself matched the illustration on the enclosed bro...
Fozgometer Yes...it is a new Ortofon that was manufactured with internal improper connections. Thanks
Vandersteen 3 w/ARC d240 MKII Before you give up on the Vandersteens, call Richard at the factory. He's very approachable, and will want to make it right for you. You've got little to loose, but a phone call.
Fozgometer Thanks.....changed the battery..no help, no short on the meter. It is a bad brand new Ortofon cartridge. Back it goes.
Should I switch to a preamp with balanced outputs Some manufacturers put balanced connections on their equipment to advance their "higher quality" aspects of the piece. There are many XLR equipped components that aren't really differentially balanced...have two complete circuits one each for the ...
VPI Classic and ZYX Airy 3 X SB...good match? I think it would be a good match....we're talking about 3000 dollars. I think you can get an Ortofon Windfield for about that much....and to MY Ears is a better cartridge.
Platter Levelling Issue There are many leveling apps from the Apple app store. Level the platter, then use a Fozgometer to get the cartridge accurately in the groove. I would not shim the arm...you want a solid connection to the turntable arm board.
Serious distortion from Rega RP1 If you checked alignment et al on the turntable, its got to be electronic. A few years ago I had a similar issue crop up and traced it to a bad filter capacitor in the prepreamp.
what do i power my thiel 3.6 with I was just going to say the same thing. Thiels are so good, their use in a surround sound mix is wasteful.
Two-channel is inferior to multi-channel, no? Certainly different....I find myself using 5.1 more since I have a better system, but the big system initiates a "wow"
Vandersteen 5A's Internal crossovers/batteries I just took the crossover and amps out and sent them to Vandersteen for him to repair them. It was done right with no chance of screw up. The speaker is too valuable for error.
Power Cords Rule I found that the end plugs provide the greatest difference. The wire itself did not. Top of the line Furutech is my favorite, although Oyeida is fine as well. |
