Pass Labs X2.5 - vs. - Placette Active Preamps Drubin, now you tell me! :) Yes, I was mighty impressed with portions of the Placette active. Perhaps some day, I'll have another go at it with gain.-IMO
Is SACD a dead format? I for one am glad if this is true. I believe it's possible to extract enough music info from a well-recorded redbook cd so that most any sonic difference is negligible at best.-IMO
Preamp/Subwoofer connection question.... Phasecorrect, some to many preamps these days have two sets of main outputs. I use the pre's XLR main outs to the amp. When I did own a subwoofer, I used the single-ended main outs for the sub.As for the price range you mention, I can't help.-IMO
Jacintha, anyone??? Here's to Ben or Autumn Leaves. If only one, then I'd lean toward Autumn Leaves.-IMO
Pass Labs X2.5 - vs. - Placette Active Preamps I think my less than wonderful experience with the Placette active had to do with the fact that this preamp has no gain.As a result, the dynamics and bass were squashed and I believe that is what led to the overall unbalanced and rather lifeless a...
McCormack Silver vs. Gold revision for DNA-125? Not sure about the silver or gold, but I replaced my DNA-2 LAE (limited anniversary edition) amp with DNA-2 Revision A (one step behind the gold). The DNA-2 Rev. A amp is easily the finest I've heard. I've owned it for almost 2.5 years now and afte...
Clean and thin sounding interconnect? I should have read the original post more closely. The Au24 ics are not 'thin' sounding.-IMO
Clean and thin sounding interconnect? Try the Audience Au24 ics. Very quiet, pristine, and robust and may be as good as any ic in this price range as well as in substantially higher price ranges. -IMO
Are "Redbook Only " CD players Obsolete? I know nothing about the Marantz DB-9500, but I agree with the other posters that the SACD and DVD-A formats are dying and/or dead and should have been declared so long ago. Good riddens.-IMO
Sony's best dedicated cdp before sacd... But I wouldn't be surprised if their absolute top-of-the-line redbook cdp is the SCD-1.-IMO
Preamp or Amp? I've owned and/or demo'ed 6 or 7 SS amps and 7 or 8 SS and tube preamps in the last 4 years. My experience is that for the most part, preamps with a decent or better reputation are for more similar than they are different. Aside from a couple that ...
Need some juice --- High power amps I also would suggest adding the Clayton amps to your list. Let me say first that I've never listened to any of the amps on your list nor the Clayton. But assuming you have full-range dynamic driver speakers, and not hearing either, I'd guess the Cl...
What sonic improvements with a high end pre-amp Generically, I believe some of the greatest gains can be found in locating the right amplifier, proper line conditioning, dedicated circuits/lines, speaker cables, ics, and proper vibration control. However, in your specific case, I believe some of...
cones or amp stand-??? Like always, Pleasure Boy(aka Ohlala), you're just performing your usual mental masturbation trying to see how many you can get to chase their tail around the mulberry bush. This would be an excellent time for everybody to take a break and allow P...
cones or amp stand-??? Ohlala (aka Pleasure Boy), just skimming thru your first page, I see no mention by the author of air-borne vibrations captured by the components or racking system. Why do you suppose the author omitted that element?-IMO |
