What defines a good tonearm
All mechanical systems have deficiencies and designers take different paths to alleviate them. I disagree with your major premiss that one or the other arm designs MUST be superior to the other; the critical part of your statement is "if that were...
What defines a good tonearm
I remember using a Pickering table that had a unipiviot arm consisting of a large steel needle which fit into the bottom of a plastic cup on the tonearm. Did it work? Sure. Did it sound like modern arms? Hell no! The question is , what do YOU find...
What defines a good tonearm
For a serious answer I have found that the execution of the particular arm is more important than the design principal chosen. Conventional arms, unipiviot arms, linear tracking arms, etc can all sound great [ or not!]. Every design principal has ...
What defines a good tonearm
Now that you mention it my wife and my tonearm have a lot in common. Both take a lot of maintenance and are fiddly to get just right but the results are well worth it. A great deal of synergy but adjustability and ease of set up? Not so much.
better phono stage
I got my Basis Exclusive used for about this amount; a really good phono stage with battery power and two separate phono circuits. I would also look for a used Audia Flight; I have their linestage and it is very good.

What price range?
Vintage 9"/10" tonearm for low compliance carts?
Lustre 801, SAEC [?], Fidelity Research, AT. There were a number of good Japanese arms; many of them made by Lustre or Jelco. The original Ortofon RS 212 was considered good in its day. I had one but so long ago I don't really remember much about ...

Moving to Singapore. Help needed
The speakers will perform the same on either supply, unless they are internally powered. Whether the newer models of a line are worth the difference cannot be answered by anyone save you. I suspect I myself might like the older ones better as I fi...
Want new phono amp, what should I buy?
My friend has that table and arm and uses a Pass phono and pre. I use the Basis Exclusive mentioned above. But all systems are different and we all hear differently so it would be hard to say which would sound best to you. I would also try to hear...
Speaker cables for Wilson Sophia 3
My friend uses Cardas GR on his Sasha; I also use it on my Gamut L5s. Transparent Reference might well be the best at a considerable increase in price.
Sota Cosmos tonearm?
My friend has one and uses the SME V with good results. I have used the IV and 309 but not on that table. I just noticed that you have 8 arms, you didn't correctly pick the winner in the last world cup did you?
which amp around 2500-3500 ish
Not really enough info to make suggestions; what speakers are you considering, what is the room size, what are your listening tastes etc.
Using both the Balanced and Unblanced inputs
I had both the balanced and unbalanced inputs connected on my Basis phono stage when I was comparing cables with no problems but as Nsgarch says try it carfully.
Help with new used SOTA/Linn Basik LVX setup
Get the V series Musical Fidelity phono stage, about $180 if I remember and it will take moving coil. Will be quite good and miles better than the one in the Denon. I don't see why your arm and cartridge will not work together, I would try them an...
