Upgrading from 90's KEF C95
You can probably do it yourself; I have. All that is usually required is to take the screws out of the tweeter, then either unsolder the tweeter or pull the clips off it, depending on how it is fasted on. Anyone who can use a soldering iron at all...
Krell Evo vs Evo-enhance
Since HIFICRITIC takes no advertising it would be difficult to promote their chosen reference amp in ads.
preamp advice.. quad 909 + esl-63
There are many used ones that are good in this price range but they are constantly changing. I would read the archive reviews in Stereophile when I saw one I liked. I'll be glad to tell you anything I know about a particular model if you email me....
preamp advice.. quad 909 + esl-63
No, unless you are very lucky. The 63s are very revealing speakers [I use to be a Quad dealer] and will reveal deficiencies in your associated equipment. I would budget quite a bit more to get the most out of your gear. Your amp is quite good and ...
Krell Evo vs Evo-enhance
I was a Krell dealer in the old days but there are none close to where I live now. I would have more faith in Colloms than in an average audiophile.
Gyrodec Best Tonearm
I would have to agree as I was a dealer for both of them then and often sold them together. A friend still has a Zeta and still likes it. They came in a nice wood case; this came in handy once when UPS left one under a bush in my yard and I didn't...
Upgrading from 90's KEF C95
Tweeters do not usually cost that much; if you have not listened to the new ones and found them significantly better I would just repair the ones you have; you will be doing that in any case to sell them or use them elsewhere. Don't assume that ne...
Hooking DishNetwork receiver to amp=speaker noise?
If your TV has audio out you can try using those. I have Direct and have used both the TV out and the receiver out to a pre; can't even remember which I am using now. Direct from receiver is theoretically better but can't remember much of a differ...
PS audio Ultimate outlet or Quintet?
I used 2 Quintets before switching to the PPP, now use one on my HT. They are quite good: HIFICRITIC found the Quintet better than the Duet. Not only improved the sound but also inproves the picture on my plasma tv.
how to ship a large 160lb subwoofer?
Get a freight company to put it on a pallet; don't even consider UPS or FED EX for this. I had my Gamut L5s in wooden crates shipped on a pallet from upstate NY to Louisville and it was about $240. They weigh 90 lb each not counting the box, carto...
Linn Ittok or Grace 707?
The 707 is still a good arm but is handicapped by its non standard arm cable. I would get something like the Jelco arm cable for it if I was going to use it. I still have one sitting around and would choose it over the cheaper Linn. The Ittok, whi...
Suggested Stands for B&W 805 Diamonds
Either the B&W stands or ones like Skylan or Sound Anchor. Do not put them on ordinary furniture.
What defines a good tonearm
I can only assume that you attended a school where the works of Aristotle still held pride of place. For most argument by definition is no longer valid.
Krell Evo vs Evo-enhance
They have been tested in HIFICRITIC and the new ones were a definite improvement. The 402e is now the reference amp used by Martin Colloms, who is the publisher and does most of the testing.
What defines a good tonearm
I repeat, there is no "best" arm. Attempting to judge sound quality by design parameters is impossible; what you are apparently searching for is a way to objectify a subjective judgement. If you like your present arm keep it until you hear somethi...
