DENON DL-304. Is it the bargain sound or not? DB electronics still make their kit which containes a selection of resistors and 2 Y connectors. Good for those who don't like to solder.
Pwr Cord Upgrade for PS Audio Pwr Plant Premiere? I am using a previous generation heavy gauge PS cable that works very well; PS says that the better the cable the better the results. I have Oyaide outlets and 2 dedicated lines and it still made a big improvement. Mine does sound softer with it b...
Are there any advantages to mc over mm? Use whichever sounds better; high output MCs are intended to be used with MM inputs in most cases as the additional gain in not needed and a good rule of thumb is to use no more gain than you need. However; there are always exceptions and yours mi...
DENON DL-304. Is it the bargain sound or not? It would be worse in my opinion. I have had several 304s and never found them bright. On the other hand 2 of my friends have the Technics table and I find them bright. The AT 150 has a reputation for being agressive on the top end so I would look ...
P.S. Audio Quintet? Worthwhile? HIFICRITIC found that the Duet was not as good sounding as the Quintet, although they had expected no difference.
Probably a dumb DAC question From my experence with the Focal Titanium tweeter, I had Mini Utopias and my friend has Wilson Sasha, I would stay away from "hot" sounding DACs. You might look at the new Rega DAC, it has a choice of several filters which make slight differences ...
Speakers with wide listening window Try crossing the axis of the tweeters somewhere ahead of where you will be listening; the closer to the speakers they are crossed the broader the area of listening but as in most things expermentation is necessary. May help, if not you have no exp...
Golden Reference VS Golden Cross There are three of us in the area who use GR speaker cables and we all have quite different systems: mine is Gamut speakers with Audia pre and CJ 350, another is Wilson Sasha with Lamm electronics, the third is AvauntGuard Horns with BAT pre and c...
Preamps suitable for CJ ACT2 Series 2 preamp. The 350 is a great amp that will drive a wide range of speakers. My tube owning friends love it; I am using it with an Audia SS line stage.
Probably a dumb DAC question Not all tube pre amps sound the same and not all DACs sound the same[ some of us would say none of them do]. Look for a DAC with the kind of sound you like; I assume you did that with the pre. If you are worried about compatability check with the ...
Tascam DV-RA1000HD Hi-Resolution Recorder These look like a good one box solution. I thought about getting into doing this myself a while ago; I looked at these and then decided on the advice of some more advanced digital recordists that the Metric Halo with a computer would be more accur...
Have you treated your listening space? Yes, see pictures of my room in system listing. Used Ready Acoustics panels, which I recommend.
Modern day equivalent for KEF 105/3 speakers I don't think you could get a very good full range 3 way speaker that would be close to the 105/3 for $1500 today. I had either that one or the 105/4 years ago. In fact I wanted to be a KEF dealer and offered to start by taking 3 pairs of 105/3s. ...
Speaker bases on wheels? They have lost popularity due to degradeing the sound. If mobility was absolutly necessary I would have some made with wheels/castors in the back which would engage when the speaker is tilted back; the Leak 3090s which I use to sell had them. They...
How far have power conditioners evolved? I think they have improved considerably but the results you will get vary so much with individual conditions that it is hard to predict if you will hear a difference between newer and older. You may or may not need one depending on your AC quality. |
