To SME or not to SME?
PS, it takes one to know one. SW
To SME or not to SME?
Let me gaze into my own crystal orb and divine the future. I ask " OH SPIRITS, WHAT IS THE LIKELIHOOD THAT THIS TRUE HIFI LOVER WILL BE SATISFIED LONG BY ANY COMPONENT, HOWEVER GOOD? Slowly the answer comes; mystic letters form within the orb: the...
Question on changing out head-shell leads..
If they have captive leads leave it to the professionals; if there are 4 pins with short wires with clips on each end then it is fairly easy if you are careful. It is quite easy to break off the clips and they will have to be soldered back on. I a...
5 legendary speakers?
Spendor BC-1KLH 9AR 3Infinity IRSTannoy GRF
accuphase compare to mcintosh
I would always choose Accuphase myself.
Gallo 3.1.....mapleshade or brightstar stands?
I bought a pair of Mapleshade from a Gallo 3.1 owner so apparently he didn't like them; I was using them on another speaker so no help there. Just about any speaker benefits from good stands, even most floor standers.
What are your favorite phono cartridges?
AT 33 EV, Denon 304, DL-S1
Do you ever doubt you ears ?
I did once but I was wrong. LOL.

Onkyo m510 grand integra
It had a good reputation at one time and I thought about buying one on several occasions but circumstances were never quite right. In my opinion it would be a good amp but whether it would be up to the level of the rest of your equipment would be ...
Once again...looking for a "tube like" SS preamp
The reason the Dynaco has a tube like sound is that they are tube preamps. IMHO the Bryston would be about as untubelike as you could get. The Audia Flight pre would be a much better choice.
Entry level recommendations???
Spend more on the table and less on the cartridge and you will be better off and positioned to upgrade when funds permit. The Ortofon Red is $99 or less and quite good; the Musical Fidelity V series phono stage is $179. Buy these or equivalents an...
SME 20/3 or Oracle Delphi VI or Garrard 301
A friend has the top SOTA vacuum table with SME 5. He has the same attitude toward resonances as you Robob. Compared to my Basis 2001/Graham or Linn/Jelco I find it a little dead or lifeless. Interestingly, he has been trying to sell it in favor o...
Phono preamp comparison: Herron vs. K&K
I would conclude either A, They haven't sold anyor B. No one wants to give theirs up.
Aragon 4004 Amplifier as Mono Block?
If your speakers are biwireable then you could use one on each channel and get much of the same effect.
