Dartzeel 108 amp driving Wilson Watt/Puppy 8
Looking at my post I see that I said Wilson amp when I meant Wilson speaker and forgot the passage that most directly answers your question. "One might have predicted that the tough low frequency loading might have stressed an all valve amplifier ...
Vinyl and SACD rule when it comes to...
Don't hold your breath waiting for the big companies to improve quality. Years ago a large Japanese pressing company that was doing 30 million CDs a year sent a British mag 2 CDs. One was a standard pressing and the other was done by an alternate ...
Adding a subwoofer to a 2 channel amp
I second the REL, but set the crossover as low as you can and work up. I have my Stadiums set at 22 Hz. The REL provides infra bass, which greatly enhances the realism of your system. It is not a subistute for bad or inadequate bass above 50 Hz.
Dartzeel 108 amp driving Wilson Watt/Puppy 8
The Watt Puppies 8 were reviewed in HIFICritic. Colloms found the Reference 110 " worked remarkably well" . The speakers are more efficient than might be thought, 160 watts giving 109 db in a typical room. It would seem that 110 watts would be suf...

Dimly lit room: Plasma, LCD, or DLP
I have last years Panasonic 50" plasma which has the non-reflective screen, which is no longer offered in the form I have. With it the TV works well in reflected light from windows [I have windows down one side of my viewing room] as well as dim c...

Class D question...............
Martin Colloms addressed the question of class D amps in a recent HIFICRITIC. He concluded that their designers were ignoring factors that had always been considered important, listing 19 of them. He concluded, among other things:What this means:􀂄...
Two KSA 80B power amplifiers
If your speakers are bi wire I wouldn't bother. Use one on each channel biwired.
Musical Fidelity needs repair
I knew Rick Walker 20 years ago. He was very competent.
older hi-end tube tv recommendations.....and hdtv.
I had the 36" hi def. Sony CRT and the picture was very good. Weighed over 200LBs. After living with my 720 Panasonic 50" Plasma I have never regretted changing. If you find a good deal on a high quality CRT they are capable of an excellent pictur...
The "charactor" of pure Class A?
I have used several amps that were considered class A. I was a dealer for Krell and Musical Fidelity and had a pair of Stax DA 80s. The common feature was a lack of hardness in the top end. But I don't think being class A is a critical feature, it...
Using CD player without Preamp?
I think we are saying the same thing. My point was that the output staged of many cheaper players are not comfortable driving a power amp directly, they were not really designed to do so. In an age where a $1000 preamp is considered low end we sho...
