Subwoofer setting
50. The other settings are for home theater , as Alvin Gold recently pointed out " Do avoid the 80 HZ crossover point mandated by the world of home cinema-which completely spoils the chances of almost any subwoofer integrating as nature intended"....
Weak/tubby bass on old Philips 212 TT
Try placing the block on some isolation devices such as cones. If the block is sitting directly on the cabinet it will transfer vibrations to the table. Isolate the block from your cabinet as well as you can.
Speaker cables for mid and high
No. Smaller is fine for mid and tweeter. The larger gage is useful for bass but may be worse elsewhere. But as always let your ears be your guide.
Looking for a good Transport. Help.
Some of the older Sony and Denon DVD/CD players have a good rep as transports. They are big and heavy with multiple power supplies. Many feel that most major companies lost interest in CDs years ago and put their research in DVD , etc. I am using ...
Sub Questions: Speaker-level vs Line & Crossover
I agree with Vladimir. I run my subs from the speaker terminals, I would get passive filters rather than use the sub crossovers. I have used several electronic[active] crossovers and could always hear them.
Where to buy a Roksan Kandy Integrated in the US?
The Roksan recently got a good review in HIFICRITIC. If you don't find one the Musical Fidelity amps are also good.
Conrad-Johnson Premier 3 - worth repairing?
I would check with Bill or Lou and see if they could give you an idea of the range of repair costs. You could advertise it AS IS and see what the interest is. The buyer might be interested in repairing it himself or having one of the large number ...
sealed vs vented subwoofers
There are university courses on every conceivable subject including creationist geology. I prefer the work of accomplished engineers such as Martin Colloms, Ben Duncan or Malcolm Hawksford who are actually engaged in the design of audio equipment....
need recommendations for sub for music
The RELs use 10" and work fine. Try to get a Strata or Storm. Stay away from the T series for music. The RELs have a great deal of room adjustment.
Class D question...............
Class D is the technology of the future, always has been and always will be.
sealed vs vented subwoofers
I have never heard of Floyd Toole . In just what way is frequency response predictive? I will refure you to the review of the Spendor SP1 at WWW.regonaudio.com. " Many speakers look good in the anechoic test chamber or on the computer analyzer. Fe...
How to use my old B&W's with my new big screen??
Put me down as one who strongly dislikes the sound of movie theaters and avoids it at home. Since I find analogue superior to digital despite having $10k worth of CD players I doubt if a receiver would produce a sound I would care for. A friend of...
Worth upgrading tonearm cable?
Any, the 600 is better but more expensive. There is a new 250 with VTA adjustment for $350. The lack of VTA adjustment is the only problem with the Rega and it can be added as it is here. I cannot say about the arm board; it may fit in the same cu...
How to use my old B&W's with my new big screen??
I just run cables from the analogue outputs on the TV [52 Panny Plasma] to standard inputs on an audio amplifier. Pick up a NAD integrated amp with remote and connect your speakers to it and thats it. I have not found that with Direct TV shows hav...
JMW9 setup tracking problems... need help
The JMW9 is not a low mass arm unless your standard is the 35 gram mass of some of the old Japanese arms. I am more worried that it is a little heavy for some cartridges. Tracking heavier is always preferable to tracking too light but don't overdo...
