Got iPod, how to hook up?
I have tried connecting it via line out on the base of the stand and via the headphone outputs to my line in. Not using the FM transmitter. I did not expect the quality to rival that of my other digital equipment, but I did expect it to sound a li...
The Audio Research Database
I am surprised that there is no way for one to submit pics or manuals to the web site. First thing I thought of was sending in pics of My D-76A. Anyone know if the person running this will accept contributions, information, etc...?
Best used speakers around 500 for clasic rock
Dude, glad to hear you are a rocker. I agree that any of the older Infinity Kappas are great at rock (kappa 9, 8 or 7), but be advised that replacement parts for those special "emit" drivers are tough to get so think about this carefully. But you ...
What after Aleph 3, need more juice?
In rereading your post, don't sell the Wilson's! You can get amazing sound, just up the power, they can take it. Also, the Watts are designed to be connected to the Puppy crossover, so you should not biamp them as suggested above, and the manual a...
What after Aleph 3, need more juice?
I've a similar system, WP5.1 and Aleph 3 in a medium sized room so I know why you like this combination. I have a number of other amps as well, when I want more power I switch to a BAT VK-200, it really integrates well with the WP's. You should gi...
Gryphon gets no press, but is great.
I have been waiting for this thread for about 5 years. Gryphon is a great brand but is at the very highest price point along with the likes of Halcro, Burmester, Goldmund. I do recall a negative review of one of their older amps in Stereophile man...
The Fastest most musical amp
For me, fast means fast risetime high slew rate and a wide frequency response. Spectral and Goldmund are fast, as already mentioned, but also check out Gryphon.
Adding a phono stage component ? Advice needed
Well, I don't think anyone has answered your question, which is whether you could use the regular preamp connected to the balanced inputs on the amp, and a another preamp connected to the unbalanced inputs on the amp. If there is a selector switch...
System for a teenager
Albert, the Vandersteen 2's need about 50 watts per channel to play loudly. I am guessing 88 or 89 db efficiency. I have 2ce's and have driven them with an old ARC 70wpc tube amp with absolutely no problems, but have had vol. problems with a 30 wa...
Great Vintage Amps-which one for you?
Yeah, it took me awhile to get the lingo down too. ARC is Audio Research Corporation. So you will find their current products at http://www.audioresearch.com Keep your eyes peeled on ebay and here for a vintage ARC.
Great Vintage Amps-which one for you?
I have an ARC D-79, and have used it regularly with Vandersteen 2CE speakers. It provides a full, lush sound with plenty of bass. I get plenty of volume (70WPC) and the sound is way more detailed than you would expect.
Reterminating Nordost- worth it?
Thanks for the great responses. The speaker cable does in fact have Z Plugs which are banana plugs (don't know if they are same or different from AQ ones).
Reterminating Nordost- worth it?
There are a lot of different types of those spades, which ones are you referring to? do you have a precise model number (oh and yes your solution will work for me, thanks). Here are the ones I have seentype #1- (8 gauge)http://shop.store.yahoo.com/...
Class A amplifier choice, need suggestions
Don't forget about the rarest (and ultra high quality) Class A amps (at least in the US), Gryphon has been making strictly class A for a lot of years and now they have a massive class A model as well as a more massive class AB. If you want a room ...
Turntable Set Up Questions again?
So is there more bass if the arm is going downhill, or is it uphill?
