Digital coaxial audio cable suggestions.
I've happily been using an Apogee Wyde Eye S/PDIF for years and most times prefer it to my Stereovox XV2 -- it's a little less crisp and more natural sounding. You can get a 0.5m cable from Musician's Friend for $50 with free shipping. Best of luck.
Earbuds?
NuForce 'phones should give you lots of clarity without overly bloomy warmth if that's what you're looking for. Got a pair (the gold ones that work with an iphone -- forget the model) for a friend of mine and he loves'em, and I think they offer mo...
New Amp for Dynaudio Contour S 1.4 Speakers
Any thoughts from Goldprint or Allenjohns on the Medusa on its own and versus other amps you've heard? Also curious about how they work with the Perspectives since I'm considering Pulsars with a couple good subs down the road (although Hydra might...
Which monitor speaker to choose??
Lots of good recommendations. For imaging I'll throw in the Joseph Audio RM7XL or Silverline SR17 (or SR17.5 even better if you can find them) as well. Not sure how much detailed and dynamic true bass you're going to get from monitors, but adding ...
Sturdy sub - $50 in-ear headphones?
NuForce has been introducing some cheaper models that might be worth a look.
VPI Classic vs. Well Tempered Amadeus
I'm very interested in this comparison as well, although I find myself wondering how the WTA would stack up against the Classic 3.Anyone ever compare the WTA to the Simplex or know someone who has?
best in-ceiling speakers
I seriously doubt the THX Ultra-2 rating means anything after you reach a certain level. I mean, the Thiels or Revels are going to sound great -- does it really matter if they've gone to the added expense of getting some rating attached to them (w...
best bang for buck on used ht speakers? maybe b&w?
Depending on what level you're looking to go to I think the 800 series could be overkill. Here's why. Your CDM1s are probably fine for home theater use, and in my humble opinion the center channel and sub are the most important speakers to get rig...
Analytical or Musical Which way to go?
There are speakers that measure well and are musical. I don't think they're mutually exclusive ideals, I just think there aren't many designers who have both the ear and technical expertise to successfully accomplish both.
Joseph Audio Pulsars
FYI, just got the latest Stereophile yesterday in which Fremer reviewed the Pulsars. Very positive review. Makes me want to hear them even more.
Great Monitors – Joseph Audio Pulsar ?
Curriemt11 -- just curious what subs you found work well with the Pulsars, and what are the main differences and/or benefits have you found in moving up to the Perspectives versus the Pulsars with good subs?
5.1 small speaker recommendations
So how do you like them? What sizes did you get and how does the center speaker do especially with things like deep male voices? I've been considering these too but concerned the center channel won't have enough, well, balls. Thanks for any thoughts.
Good speakers under 10K.
I'd second the Vandy recommendation and off the top of my head add Rockport, Nola, DeVore, and Joseph Audio as some other brands worth exploring. Best of luck.
McCormack DNA 0.5 vs. Parasound HCA 2003
Steve brought up a good point. Also, anyone know if the Totem Tabu's are a harder or easier load than the Vandys? If they're comparable that would also seem to call into question that this could be a power issue.
In-celing and in-wall speaker choice
Haven't heard them, but looks like Paradigm also offers a good selection of inwalls with some cheaper options than PSB, etc. Might be worth a look since I'd guess they're in a similar performance range. Someone told me there were some deals on Rev...
