Modular Room-w/in-a Room HT? Think's a good idea?
Avgoround, just for my own information in case I redo my basement in the near future (more for better sound than isolation, although isolation would be nice too), what things did you do wrong? Thinking there's a good chance I'd make at least some ...
High quality pre-amp improve sound processor
So, just to clarify what has been said above in case it's not clear, rather than have your stereo source go into your prepro and then to the stereo pre it would be the reverse. Your stereo signal would go directly to your stereo pre, and the front...
DAC/Preamp with Balanced Outputs $2500 new/used
Had the Bel Canto DAC3 and DAC3 VB on an extended demo in my system. The standard DAC3 was very good, but the VB version was at a much higher level and well worth the money if it's in your budget. Glowing reviews across the board, and I concur. Ha...
Let's try this a different way then
There's a pair of Joseph Audio RM25s for sale here for $800. Outstanding imaging/soundstage and they pull off a disappearing act that rivals the best out there. Will have no problem filling your room with sound. Jump on them. You won't be disappoi...
Marantz HD-DAC1 vs Bel Canto DAC 1.x/2.x/3.x?
Since no one has chimed in yet, I had the DAC3 and DAC3 VB in my system on extended demo and they were outstanding. If you go with BC you need to get the VB version as it brings the DAC to a much much higher level. Extremely neutral and transparen...
New receiver
If high performance is important to your friend then R1's suggestion is a good one as you hit the $1000+ price range. If they're just looking for something that provides decent performance, convenience, and reliability, I'd look at Yamaha AVRs. Th...
Joseph Audio Pulsars v. Focal Diablo Utopia's
For the price of the Focals you could almost be looking at the JA Perspectives. Anyway, I think the fact that you like the JA house sound is a good indicator although certainly not definitive. Also, the Focal tweeter is very different from the tre...
Input on speaker sizing for a lively room.
Joseph Audio Perspective would be another one to look at. Best of luck.
$10K budget. Help
Given what I've seen of your preferences I'd look for a used VAC integrated and used Joseph Audio Pulsars. Can't imagine that combo would disappoint or not offer a significant improvement in most areas. Best of luck.
Speakers for Office/Listening Room
There's a nice pair of ATC SCM7s for sale here a bit over your price that would likely meet your requirements, but you'd need a solid state amp. Best of luck.
stereo preamp $2-5K suggestions
Why are you sitting 1/3 into the room??? Is it a logistics thing? I find I only need a foot or two away from the wall behind my chair to avoid bad things happening from reflections from that wall.
stereo preamp $2-5K suggestions
My experience with Vandys is they are among the best in soundstage, imaging, depth, etc. I also think the Arcam is probably greatly limiting what you're getting out of your speakers. That said, when the wife's not around I'd suggest pulling the sp...
1990s speaker recommendation
Agree with Zd. Why buy a 20 year old speaker when you can get an almost new pair for the same $$$. Personally, I'd wait for a pair of used Silverline Minuets to become available. Best of luck in your search.
CM1's ALL AROUND?
Assuming you're getting the surround pair used and that you really like the sound you have so far, I think having largely the same speakers all around would outweigh any savings you'd achieve by buying cheaper surrounds. If you're not running a su...
a first integrated amp to build a system around
Would help greatly to know what sound reproduction characteristics are important to you, what type of music you listen to and how loud, etc. That said, agree with others that speakers are the place to start and then choose an amp that matches soni...
