I'm looking for inexpensive bookshelf speakers. The Silverline Minuets are a great speaker that do lots of things very well and very little wrong. At this price point I tend to shy away from metal domed tweeters as in the B&Ws in favor of silk domes, but that’s just me. Best of luck.
Preamp dillema for McCormack Ultra Platinum What aspects of sound reproduction are most important to you and what are you looking to improve upon with a new preamp? Will be easier to make recommendations once your particular tastes and goals are better known. Also, I seem to recall modifi...
Quick question about a speaker upgrade There's a nice pair of Nola Baby Grand Golds available here now at a great price, and the designer prefers Audio Research amps with his speakers. Just as a different option. Best of luck.
DAC recommendation I have two recommendations, both of which I'd think would bring noticeable improvements over the DAC in your P5. They would be the Metrum Hex DAC and the Bel Canto DAC3 VB. Both of these DACs have been favorably compared to much more expensive c...
electrostatic vs dynamic sound +++ everyone else. Where did you put the absorption panels and what kind are they? Did you treat first and second side reflection points as well as floor and ceiling? I’d think once that’s done the echoes would be significantly diminished. I'd ta...
Good Used Speakers ($8K-10K) For A Little Listening Room The obvious question is how the RM25XLs sound in your room now? Hard to believe they work well in there without at least some room treatments and/or some sort of EQ. They are rated at down 2dB at 32Hz while the Pulsar and Perspective measure 42d...
Speakers least affected by room acoustics Treat your ceiling and just don't look up. Or buy Bose -- the echoes will sound great compared to what comes directly out of the speakers.
Amplifier to complete a 7.1 channel system w/great stereo music performance? Because you're still using the preamp section of the Rotel, which isn't on the level of a good dedicated stereo preamp and so will continue to be a bottleneck to achieving better sound. One of the big surprises many new audiophiles have as they t...
Incoming ... Joseph Audio Pulsars Congrats! Love the sapele finish too. Would be interesting to know how much the sub adds once you get it dialed in.
Classic Over-reaction! Put the toaster on its own dedicated line. Problem solved, and your toaster will sound better too.
Amplifier to complete a 7.1 channel system w/great stereo music performance? Just wrote a long response and got kicked out and lost it. ARGH!!! So I'm making this one brief(er). I've been down this same road with a Rotel RSP980, so here are some thoughts from my experience. Adding a stereo preamp is just as -- and maybe...
Aleph 4, or else? (good general purpose class A amp) There are pretty nice Aleph 2 monoblocks for sale here now.
Hegel H30 or Bryston 7B3 monos What specifically is the "magic" you lost with the Levinson pair, and what specifically are you looking to improve now? Also, with all the wonderful amp options out there, why would you limit it to these two?
Speaker alternatives Well that's certainly a tough act to follow, and you've got a couple good options there already (obviously moving down the Revel line would be a no brainer). Have you heard time/phase-coherent speakers before? I had the Thiel CS1.6es in my syste...
Experimenting with Speaker Room Placement So you pulled the speakers out 5 feet and noticed better "clarity." I assume that means the bass was less boomy and the sound was better balanced overall? What is telling you side reflections are still a problem? How far are the speakers from t... |
