Musician pegasus DAC or Denafrips Aries 2
Well, @melm as a long-time reviewer I’ve long since learned to not wrestle in the mud with a pig, because the pig likes it. So, I’ll start with this from Soundnews.net with the assertion of the resistor ladder architecture... This is exactly whe...
Where next from gamut d200i?
Using the preamp section of your DAC.  No.  Just...no.  Preamps are one of the most important components in any system, and I fully believe that’s where your limitation lies.  Given what you’re looking for, I’d search out the best used Audio Resea...
Why I'm not adding a sub to my 2-way monitors for music
Nothing against those that choose to use a sub, to each their own. To me, it is over kill and not necessary. Most music contains nothing below say 40 hz...most speakers with say a 40 hz rating actually go significantly lower when interacting with...

Not sure what your budget is, but if I’m you I’m giving a hard look at the Verity Audio Otello. Here’s a review that very much jibes with what I heard and bowled me over when I heard the Parsifal. Spoiler alert — the reviewer bought the review pai...
New mains to complement Usher 5.1 setup?
Congrats on some AWESOME new speakers!  Now the bad news — I absolutely FORBID you to drive these beauties with an AVR.  It’d be an insult to them and you won’t hear half of what you paid for.  My advice — start looking for  a new AVR that has pre...
Musician pegasus DAC or Denafrips Aries 2
Well @melm, I’ll give you the power supply, but the Pegasus benefits from using the same resistor ladder that’s found in the considerably more expensive Venus and Terminator DACs. Oh yeah, and the Pegasus is $700 cheaper than the Pontus ll. I can’...

Yeah, take a look at Verity.  One of the five best speakers I’ve ever heard, and I’ve heard a lot.  They are one of the few brands I’d categorize as truly special, but at this level you gotta listen for yourself anyway.  Best of luck.

As for the Pegasus being on the level of the Pontus, I don’t know what @soix is smoking. There seems to be a lot of smoke regarding this brand. Ok @melm, fair enough. I can just tell you that my Pegasus works fine, sounds excellent, and is buil...
Coincident Statement Line Stage vs Jadis JP80MC vs EAR 868PL vs Aesthetic Janus
I am wondering if I will get better synergy to find a preamp that also have a good MC phono built in. Shame on you!  At this level, stick a crowbar in your wallet and pony up for a good separate phono pre.  As for a pre, I think you’d do well t...
Why I'm not adding a sub to my 2-way monitors for music
I’ll just say that if you enjoy listening to monitors without a couple good subs, you either have crap subs or don’t know how to set them up.  My experience is that when you eliminate subs from a well setup system the soundstage collapses along wi...

Don’t know what your budget is, but Verity Audio would be really worth a look.  Also 3M, both from Canada and really great speakers.
Best sounding processor
A lot of people favor Marantz but I find it harsh and bright sounding. Sorry @erik_squires, but no. Just...no. I worked for Magnolia for a bit, and of all the AVRs out there Marantz was the LEAST harsh and bright sounding — polar opposite actua...
Musician pegasus DAC or Denafrips Aries 2
I had read that Musician was an OEM supplier for Denafrips and decided to launch their own line of DACs.
Musician pegasus DAC or Denafrips Aries 2
I don’t know, but from what I’ve read the Pegasus looks to be more on the level of the Pontus than the Aries in terms of build and sound quality.  I think the Aries would be more comparable to the Musician Draco, but these are all just semi-inform...
Recommended USB Cables.
Can’t get my head around spending $500+ for a USB cable, or at least not yet anyway.  I went for a LavriCable Ultimate Silver Dual USB that was $134 for a 1m cable.  I haven’t compared it to any other USB cables, so all I can say is my headphone r...
