questions about streaming source for a headphone amp
I'm interested in using my MacBook and I'm glad to know that many do so. Does anyone have any obvious ways to bypass the laptop's dac? It looks like I'll need to use a USB connector of some kind ....Yeah, it’s just that a laptop is a noisy music s...
Mac vs streamer.
Streamers can offer some improvement and people certainly like them but dropping several thousand for a streamer doesn't appear to get the results for the money. Many owners of Innuos, Lumin, Wolf, etc. streamers would strongly disagree.
Tube Preamp - What to buy?
Audio Research and CJ are at opposite ends of the sonic spectrum.  What sound characteristics are you looking for?
Power
Troy should not be allowed to post anything — it’s always a hot mess. At least Steve is coherent if still heavily biased and self serving.
Transport needed !
Better off just selling the Node and getting a Vault that you can load your CDs into, ditch the transport altogether, and have access to all your music from one device without leaving your chair. And when you want more, just buy a better DAC. Pers...
Recommendation for amp
The Bel Canto C5i has ample power and also a good onboard DAC that sounds like you could also use.  Best of luck
AVR: Internal 2 CHANNEL AUDIO MODE. OR: HT BYPASS (external equipment for 2 CH Sources)
@big_greg — good idea using a diagram.  Much easier and more effective than using all those damn confusing words.  Wish I’d thought of it.
What is the most important component to consider while building a new system?
In general I’d have to agree with McGowan about speakers being the most impactful and thus most important on an absolute basis, but that said I’d hate to pair expensive electronics with cheap speakers or vice versa. Seems kinda silly either way to...
AVR: Internal 2 CHANNEL AUDIO MODE. OR: HT BYPASS (external equipment for 2 CH Sources)
By George, I think he’s got it!  It’s a beautiful thing, ain’t it?Older Stereo Systems without HT Bypass can be used this way, however the coordination of the front volume can be tricky. Not really.  When I did it I just set the “reference” volume l...
Connecting external preamp to AVR
Yeah it’s a little confusing at first, but it’s a beautiful thing once implemented and so deceptively simple and effective.
AVR: Internal 2 CHANNEL AUDIO MODE. OR: HT BYPASS (external equipment for 2 CH Sources)
Hey Elliott, I know this is tough to grasp at first as it seems almost too good to be true, but it exists and allows us audiophiles with only one room to seamlessly blend HT and stereo systems into one and switch between them with only the push of...
Connecting external preamp to AVR
Yeah that sounds like me, and yes the outputs from the DAC (or any other quality stereo signal) go right into the stereo preamp so they never touch the AVR in any way, which is the whole point.
Should I switch to a larger room?
Switching rooms would be a PITA, but is it worth doing?Oh good Lord yes!!!  And even more so with your speakers.  You can do all the mods you want, but the room will still be the largest contributor to what you ultimately hear.  And although chang...
AVR: Internal 2 CHANNEL AUDIO MODE. OR: HT BYPASS (external equipment for 2 CH Sources)
HT Bypass is a DIRECT INPUT to the AVR Front L & Front R AMPS.Several sources, thru your ’best in the world’ Preamp, still go to the AVR’s L/R amps thus the AVR is still driving the speakers, the preamp a switcher with volume control.I think w...
