Seeking lower cost alternatives to Berkeley Audio Design Alpha USB converter
I guess it depends on how critical performance is, but the Singxer SU-6 looks to be of good quality and is quite a bit cheaper than the Berkeley at $690.  Best of luck.
Best 5.1 options under $5k
Sealed subs generally sound more clean, but they do have somewhat of an artificial sound to them (a very slight slant) where it almost sounds like a sine wave.  Uh, what?  What the hell does that even mean?  Have you been drinking tonight?  Jeez.
Best 5.1 options under $5k
In my opinion, the SVS are okay but they are not the greatest resolution speaker. The best speakers I know of in this budget level are the Elac Debut Reference (DFR52, DCR52, DBR62). The SVS will sound a little dull in comparison to the Elac Ref...
Best 5.1 options under $5k
I think looking at SVS is an excellent idea.  They offer very good performance and value along with outstanding customer service, and their center speaker (crucial for good HT) is superior at the price point IMHO.  If this is strictly for home the...
Dedicated lines — how many? Other advice?
It’s probably not much more expensive to run two dedicated lines than one, so I’d run one for analog and one for digital for the dedicated audio only. I wouldn’t bother with the A/V stuff — just get a good power conditioner with surge protection w...
Alternative to SMSL M400 DAC?
Yeah this seems like a tough ask, especially at this price level.  I’d spring for something like a Singxer SU6 Audio Bridge and just get whatever DAC sounds best to you.  Best of luck.
Streamer Advice / Recommendation for Denafrips R2R DAC
Since your Denon has preouts, all you’d need to do is connect the front L/R preouts from the Denon to an input of your choice (or HT Bypass if it has one) on the stereo preamp and that’s pretty much it. Choose that input on the stereo pre when you...
Good headphone amplifier
It really depends on what sound characteristics are most important to you and what improvements you’re looking for over what you have now.
streamer to DAC connection

Streamer Advice / Recommendation for Denafrips R2R DAC
So I’m thinking Auralic Aries G1 feeding Denafrips Pontus is worth the money over budget. Not if you’re feeding it into the Denon. Feeding that nice, high-end signal into an AVR is like putting crappy tires on a Porsche — it largely defeats/underm...
Better than Usher Dancer Mini-X DMD?
Well, given what you’ve said, the music you listen to, and your amp, without question I’d be taking a very hard look at the ATC SCM40 v2 speakers.  I say this despite being a huge Usher and Joseph Audio fan, I think the SCM40s could be your ticket...
Streamer Advice / Recommendation for Denafrips R2R DAC
+1 @jjss49 — IMHO you’re wasting your $ on the Pontus if you’re feeding it into the Denon.  Its highly inadequate preamp section will suck most of the goodness out of any good DAC.  If you’re serious about better 2-channel you need a good stereo p...
Better than Usher Dancer Mini-X DMD?
I’d definitely put the speakers on the 9’ wall and pull them out at least a couple feet — that alone will do wonders opening up and improving your sound. You still haven’t mentioned what type of improvements you’re looking for over your Ushers. To...
Considering a POSSIBLE replacement for speakers. Opinions?
I’m not one to make recommendations blindly, but I’d highly recommend you do an in-home trial of the LSA-20 Signatures available here from the manufacturer for $2299/pr.  You have pretty darn good speakers already IMHO so won’t be easy to signific...
Can a Classe SSP replace a dedicated stereo pre?
But not just any AVP, I’m trying to ask about a Classe product that was designed with 2 channel in priority and not surround?Yeah, but you’re still replacing a well-regarded tube pre with the preamp section of a solid state AVP.  All I’ll say is b...
