Acoustic Progressive Rock
I'm not sure what "Progressive" Rock is so this may not help...(Alice In Chains) had a very well recorded "Unplugged" cd you could try.Dave
Pass Preamps
I listened to Apogee Duetta Signatures in a system using a Pass preamp. Sorry I don't remember which model but I do remember it to be a very good preamp by my standards.Dave
Pass labs X-350 Love it or hate it
I agree with Onemug, heck... I own a couple of those bright Krells you do not like...I'll never fret or sell them because you don't like them though.Audiophile opinions are all over the map in many regards...very funny sometimes, kind of a monkey ...
best 6922 for Sonic Frontiers Power 2 se.
I like Amperex USN-CEP 7308's in my Audioprism Mantissa preamp...not a tube for someone that wants lots of bloom though so you may want to state your goals for your system...and of course your price range.Dave
Best way to drive balanced input from SE preamp
Can't you biamp your speakers with the two amps?, I think that would sound better than bridged.Dave
Would you buy speakers with out first listening ?
PdreherThanks for the heads-up...not in the market at this time though.Dave
Using Bad Recording to Evaluate a System
I take along the music I listen to and enjoy which includes good and not so good recording quality. While it would be nice if all recordings were of equal high quality...it ain't gonna happen.I think that many audiophiles go through the AUDIOPHILE...
Which musician retired too soon?
Not a single artist, but...David and David did the "Boomtown" album that places high on my list of wanting MORE. Cat Stevens for sure under retired...."expired" would better fit most of the others I can think of, and mentioned above.Dave
SACD and DAC
If your interested in multichannel SACD then pick up a used Sony XA-777es, I owned one for about a year...fantastic sounding SACD player. It's redbook playback is good but not great so an outboard DAC may help there.Dave
The most emotional amp out there?
I agree with Stanhifi...Boone's Farm for me, I have a bottle left over from 1969...the good apple stuff!Dave
This might be a stupid question,,but
I agree with Unsound. Dave
Having second thoughts on Khorns Need help
"all rock concerts use horns. i rest my case"Yes they do, and they sound very bad!, but...they get the job done in the SPL department and can be driven to those levels at low cost.Dave
Having second thoughts on Khorns Need help
I have a pair of VMPS Supertowers/R's that I bought while I was still playing lots of loud rock. The lower section of these (are) the large VMPS subs...17hz is not a problem! In your price range you could try these if you live on a farm and are not...
The most emotional amp out there?
Emotional amp, thats funny....I suspect if you were to connect to an un-emotional pair of speakers, you would come up with some type of hi-bred sound?Dave
Duke did the Sound LABs survive?
No, Idaho does not have many twisters.Dave
