First off, check around for an insurance company that will pay if you make a claim, some will do everything in their power not to pay should you ever need them...ask friends if they have ever needed to file a claim, if so...ask them their opinion ...

Tube pre- or amp: does it matter?
I started with a tubed preamp, added tube amps a couple years latter. The amps make the bigger difference in my system but the preamp on it's own mated with a nice SS amp sounded very good also.Dave

I take mine apart for a good cleanup every six months or so...after slinging wires for 35 years, I can sling with the best...no fear here.I can't say I've never wound up with less than perfect results though...Hummmmmm, usually tracked down fairly...

If you can find a Counterpoint DA-10A with the ultra-analog card upgrade at Audiogon or Ebay in your price range...grab it.I'll rate it much higher than Jafox did above . I've compared mine using a pioneer transport and Apogee digital cable agains...

Subwoofer Question
You may have the crossover set to high...try a lower setting or move the sub between the speakers. Another sub will of course fix the problem also, and may be the best way to go if you can not do the other fixes.Dave
