Sound quality differences in streamers
Its nonsensical to believe dacs act as a noise conditioner for detail obscuring noise further upward in streaming chain. The only sense of 'conditioning' a dac can possibly achieve is optimizing certain inputs, this usually usb on most dacs. Galva...
DDC or Better Streamer?
My experience is streamer is more important than DDC. Gaia DDC via I2S to both Laiv Harmony and Musetec 006 icing on the cake, this vs optimized usb. I've been through at least six streamers, streamers right up there with dac as most important str...
Rel sub x-over fs/click
I have  Rel T9x's, not sure if your sub same setup. In any case my Rel crossover settings go from minimum 30hz to max 120hz, 39 clicks. So, this means aprox. 2.31hz per click.
Sound quality differences in streamers
I should add the objectivist would also presume their system to be reference quality, therefore, has the potential to expose any possible difference in streamer sound quality.
Sound quality differences in streamers
Audiophiles who own more expensive streamers are generally no longer comparing these to the affordable, they've moved past that. Vast majority are comparing expensive streamers, the fact a wide variety are purchased likely goes to show all expensi...
Differences in clock cables?
Disagree that dacs will not usually benefit from a clock. One should research the I2S clock within their dac or dac they're considering purchasing. The I2S clock will always be the final clock in any clock chain, native data path within dacs. Ther...
Sound quality differences in streamers
The Dejitter Switch X addresses an issue most are unaware of. Having a 'clean' network is required to get the most out of one's streamer/streaming setup, this means starting at modem. I discovered the benefits of having an audio only or 'clean' ne...
Sound quality differences in streamers
@verdantaudio I too have found Roon best with core and endpoint/renderer segregated, in my case two streamers run in bridged mode.
Throwing 2 High End brands together will not automatically equal success. Thoughts?
I don't get a dealer doing this unless they are poor listeners. In early days  relied on dealers and shows to gain an understanding of synergy between components. Over time, as I came to understand my preferences and/or my unique needs for my syst...
The Expectation Gap
Expectation has a very strong correlation to confirmation bias. Controlling your expectations means less chance for confirmation bias. From my younger days I recall great excitement and expectations with new purchases, my system wasn't where I wan...
Sound quality differences in streamers
Streamers vary greatly in the amount of noise generated from within, noise is the enemy of resolution/transparency. In researching and comparing streamers you'll find much difference in the lengths some makers go to lesson noise. Every single comp...
Is Roon The Best Sounding Option For Us?
@neonknight Processing within dacs and streamers are two entirely  different things. Streamers have to process both the music player apps and all the other functions of a computer/processor, this is entirely different from dac processing of data/m...
Is Roon The Best Sounding Option For Us?
Per @mapman Its quite logical to assume Roon may not be best music player app for every streamer. Roon requires more intensive use of streamer processor vs some other music player apps, speed/low latency which means more powerful processors likely...
The Expectation Gap
Over time I've leaned to mitigate initial expectations, hard for reality to live up to the dream world of high expectations. In any case long term satisfaction is the goal, knowing that in advance inherently leads to mitigated initial expectation.
Would you buy a tube amp if you were unable to use vintage tubes in it ?
In order to determine life expectancy good to know plate voltages, ask amp manufacturer or measure plate voltages. Soft start circuits will also extend life, in rush current can be hard on tubes.
