Linlai 845, Elite vs Acme vs DG sound
Don't use my 845 amp much anymore, but have always been happy with my Shuguang Black Bottle Treasures from early 2000 tens. Not up on reliability of tubes you mentioned but I've had issues with 101D Linlai Elites and Psvane WE version of this tube...
Dumb question......why do you need a preamp?
For dacs, unless R2R has analog output no volume control, chip dacs or those with digital volume control bit stripping is the issue.
Has this ever happened to you?
I experienced exactly this in the past, and yes, it didn't last. In recent years I've not experienced anything less than a fully immersive, pleasurable listening session, I both consistently admire the sound quality and become fully involved in th...
Dumb question......why do you need a preamp?
Active preamps have always provided the soul for my systems, performers become  real live flesh and blood, totally indispensable for me.
physiology and psychology of hearing
I sang in choirs for many years, learned at a very young age I had pitch perfect capability. Question is would I have made different choices for a high end system devoid  this capability?  I'd also posit mental clarity or the ability to focus, cle...
R2R next? Don't like ESS
I also find it bizarre ESS chip dacs claimed to  not be transparent, never heard that complaint before, colorless, cold, sterile are the typical complaints. If you have any of these complaints with ESS, improperly implemented and likely cheap Chin...
Power for two subs.
I pigtailed another outlet onto existing outlet to create a single dedicated circuit for my monoblock amps and dual subs, 10AWG wire for all.
A not sarcastic question for the power conditioner/upgraded power cord folks
Some years ago I went through a number of the well known PC brands via lending library of CableCo in order to find one that didn't impact transients, no luck, didn't matter if outlets were marked for amp or not. Audience was the best of the lot bu...
R2R next? Don't like ESS
Implementation is key with dacs, FPGA, R2R and ESS or other chip dacs can all do analog like sound along with transparency. At lower end R2R and older chips will be more forgiving than the ESS.
Amp suggestion for Merlin TSM speakers
I ran Merlin VSM for years, tubes all the way. Push pulls really liked them with EL34, also ran them with 845SET even better. Always great with the Joule amplification as well,  I ran Joule LA100 MkIII pre with all the amps. Not difficult impedanc...
First impressions of new MH-DA006, Musetec flagship
Point being even relatively low life streamers should be differentiated in an otherwise high end system. Also, mini's can be pretty good  with dedicated linear power supplies replacing stock switching PS, RAM upgrades, extensive OS modifications, ...

@kennymacc +1, and this for every audio component.
HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH TO SPEND ON A SYSTEM? IF YOU GET THE SOUND DOES IT MATTER?
Some may judge others guilty of this, doubt any audiophile ever admitted to this in regard to their own spending unless they're in debtor prison or lost family and friends over their expenditures.
First impressions of new MH-DA006, Musetec flagship
I continually see these threads where some claim streamers make no difference in sound quality, this may be the most preposterous claim I've ever heard in the audio realm. i easily heard changes with streamers in my earliest days of streaming. Tho...
Does a good power conditioner reduce need for power supply upgrade?
PC and equipment internal power supplies do have the common purpose of filtering out noise. Internal power supplies are entirely responsible for converting AC to DC and providing continuous voltage and adequate current, this affects dynamic capabi...
