Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
@mapman Thanks for all of the comparisons.  I have to ask about what "laid back" means to you and what you are hearing?I would probably say that for me, "laid back" suggests that the high mids and treble may be down a few db thereby giving two imp...
Speaker Imaging - Do you hear a line, or do you hear an arc??
First...THANKS Eric....for so darn many thought provoking threads that you have started!I agree with the hemisphere/half bubble description.  No doubt that often the slightest change in speaker positioning will affect the overall sound...sometimes...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
@mapman So my question to those of you that own one of the models would be about the high end.....  If the crossover is really in the 6-8k range, then I would say that the Walsh driver is carrying most of the load for the midrange and top end exce...
Speaker Imaging - Do you hear a line, or do you hear an arc??
I have a pretty big room....10' ceilings....12,000 cubic feet.  Speakers are Salk Veracity STs...9' apart and 30" out from the rear wall.  No room treatments...lots of glass, ceramic tile, and drywall...with a few area rugs and furniture....normal...

Two Thumbs Up For SALK and the Veracity ST
MPI've only heard the Devore Super 9s....in a show type environment...and they sounded really good...but almost impossible to draw a fair comparison with my Veracity STs.I've had the Salks now for five months and I can only say that they continue ...

Options on Belles / Belles Aria?
I’ve had a Belles 22a tube hybrid preamp for 18 months.. excellent sound in every respect and when you open it up... beautifully laid out on the inside.  Attention to craftsmanship is obvious.
What’s really hurting the audio hobby?
I think we should not underestimate how much younger people, and by that I’m saying 35 and under, hate shopping in stores.  If it is not online it doesn’t exist.  This aversion makes it less likely that they will be introduced and then become inte...
Recommended solid state amp for user with tinnitus
The Parasound Halo has a reputation for top end smoothness...I own the A23 and while it is not the be all end all for minute detail, it has a great low end and mid range...plenty of punch...really good soundstage and will NEVER sound screechy.Here...
Recommendation for detailed/analytical bookshelf speaker?
@insocFrom a logic standpoint, your strategy makes sense...BUT...just remember that as you move "up the chain" the higher versions will likely be bigger and as a result, they may or may not couple well with your room...especially if the speaker i...
Bryston 4B3 or Ps Audio M700 monoblock?
@benjosef1 The M700 seems to have a lot of likes... and of course it is returnable. In addition I’d suggest you take a 45 minute drive up to Allentown and visit Digital Amplifier Company as they are getting a lot of great feedback for their class ...
What Audiophiles Could Learn from Food Scientists
@erik_squiresInteresting Thread...I'd like to think that there is one additional metric that the food industry uses that I also hope the audio industry uses...especially the "little guys"..and that is safety.  I tend to think of quality assurance...
Recommendation for detailed/analytical bookshelf speaker?
I'm going to throw five speakers into the ring for consideration...which are musical and have great detail because of their tweeters...all have good forum comments and are not bright/harsh even though detailed.http://www.ascendacoustics.com/pages/...
Our Responsibility
@bigkidz+1I have two boys....both grew up with music, good gear and great sound.  At this point, one has more money invested in guitars and guitar amps than I have in my home system.  The other plays acoustic but not electric.Both....love music, h...
