If you wanted to impress someone, which track? Thom Rotella Band, trk #3, Naima--play loud only if your system can handle it!
Any smooth jazz fans out there? I'm a great fan of all the artists you mention, but my favorites are Richard Elliott, Peter White and Craig Chaquico. When Brian Hughes first started, he reminded me a lot of Pat Metheny. When I lived in the Bay Area, they had some cool FM station...
velodyne fsr 18 I agree with Bjpd57al, all you need is a 12" or 15" sub. My audio room is 14x15x8, and I'm using a Velo F1500R (15") and it's more than enough. You' knock your walls down with the 18" unit!
McIntosh MC1.2kw Reference's first sentence says all that you need to know about his reply. The question was whether anyone had experience with the Mac monoblocks, and since he is so biased, I'd disregard his comments. Many, many folks find that Macs sound great. ...
ads speakers I also would not rule out the 1290/2's. I own the 1590/2's as well as the 1290/2's, and they are both great speakers.Their older 1530's were also great, size being their biggest drawback. It seems that after the 1590 era, they started going downhi...
Electrician's advice wanted: safely lifting ground So what's wrong with the cheater plugs? Parasound amps were noted for having to use cheaters to avoid the hum. A GFCI isn't going to change anything. Gound wire and neutral wire are tied together in the panel anyway, technically.
Inactive audio members that you miss I miss hearing from Aball. His knowledge on Mac items was superb. His voice has been silent for awhile now.
is a center channel really necessary?? I don't use a center channel in my HT room, mainly because a lot of the older films I enjoy sound crappy with everything coming out of the center channel only. I would rather spread the sound to both sides, even if some of it is mono. Just my opin...
High Efficiency Speakers Your top 3 or more One of the best I've owned was the ADS 1530, with an efficiency rating of 95 db. They could play loud, could handle 500 watts, and sounded great. They were Telarc's studio monitors for years, until they updated and went to Waveform Mach 7's. Their ...
SACD's to avoid due to poor remastering. Although all 12 SACD's I've purchased are Classical, I've come to the conclusion that the original cd's I have are better sounding! I also noticed that the dynamic range was such that the quiet spots were so quiet I couldn't hear them, then the fu...
To big to fail? What road are we headed down? Well, Byegolly, I agree with you 100%. Just today I received a 4-disc set, and the case was destroyed!BTW, this is not the Audio Asylum, and so it is fair game for anyone to express an opinion. Personally, I think anyone who is into vinyl is nuts,...
Power requirement for ADS L-1290? I'm using a Yamaha DSP-AI Integrated Amp(100 wpc)with mine, and that's plenty of power. I've used them with my McIntosh 7200 Amp (200 wpc) and it's interesting to note that the meters never register over 20 wpc. You have good speakers!
what are the "must have" CD's The one cd I use for demos is, Thom Rotella Band, also the name of the cd. Track 3, "Naima" is awesome-if your system can play this loud, you'll be blown away. I just checked, it's available on Amazon. This is on the DMP label, CD-460.Alan
What exactly is London/Decca Rushton is quite right in his explanation of Phase 4 recordings. I have been purchasing a few of these lately, and to me they are more thrilling to listen to than SACD Classical recordings. Some of the ones I particularly am enjoying is Stanley Bl...
MAC Autoformers? I have used many Mac amps over the years (since 1978) except for the latest models, whose prices are truly hideous! My conjecture is the same as ONTJESR, the 7200 was/is the best amp they've made, and with no autoformers.. In my experience, all th... |
