Do you ...Center Channel? I have a dedicated sound/ht room, and I don't use a center channel speaker, instead using 4 channels + the LFE channel. I have no problem with doing that. In my upstairs family room, I've tried it both ways, and now do not use a center channel. I f...
Sales: truth in weight? I agree about many of these shipping estimates being inflated, but consider this: I notice a lot of sellers dont't seem to have a manual (which usually gives the dimensions and weight) and they don't keep their boxes and many do not have the remot...
What is a Region 1 DVD? There are different region codings depending on the location of where you live. NTSC Region 1 is for the US and Canada, Pal is for Europe, etc. There are 6 region codes world-wide. An NTSC region code 0 can also be played anywhere in an NTSC regio...

need DVD recorder help My Sony RDR-HX900 dvd recorder is very easy to use, although finalizing is still done thru the on-screen menu. I have a 50" tv, so seeing a menu is no problem for me-I know that doesn't help you. The recording speeds are: 1, 1.5, 2, 3, 4, 6 hour. ...
How to build 2.1 HT? Sure, the 5.1 receivers you mention can do as you want. You will have to use "Pro-logic", set the center speaker in menu setup to "Phantom" (you won't be hooking up your center or rear speakers) and set the sub speaker in menu setup to "on". I'm d...
McIntosh C15 Vs. C712 I've owned the C712, and for short runs like you mention, there isn't any advantage to using the balanced outs. Are you looking to buy one of these? If so, Mac made a much better preamp in the C37. Not only do you get the balanced outs, you have t...
What exactly is "B stock"? The above 2 responses are correct. I purchased a Yamaha DSP-A1 Integrated Amp/Processor 4 years ago as a "B" stock item, brand new. It has been a perfect piece of gear. I don't know why it was designated as such, as I could never find anything wro...
CD-R burnout Your responses are all great. I personally have not had any problem with my discs; I just thought you guys might get a kick out of the drivel that seems to be floating around out there. As usual, time will tell. As for me, my hearing will probably...
Best Mcintosh solid-state amp 200-300 watts? Of course, you will get varied opinions on this, but for my money, Mac's best amp ever produced is the MC7200! No autoformers here, direct-coupled, with great sound! Rated at 200 wpc @ 8 hms/300 wpc @ 4 ohms. Many of Mac's amps have had "muddy" ba...

Upgrade A/D/S L1530 midrange to L2030? I can't imagine why anyone would want to add the aux. mids to the 1530, which is great speaker as is. However, contact Richard So at: richardso65@aol.com. He has all the info you might need, as he bought up all ADS' stock when they moved to the We...
Mcintosh transformer hum You also might try tightening down the transformer. I had this problem a few years ago on a Parasound amp, and tightening the 4 bolts solved the problem. However, Bigjoe is right, most Mac's don't have this problem.
Cheap SACD Player? Check out Sony's DVP-NC685V. This got a rave review in Stereophile for it's SACD playback. I have two, and love them. These units will play all current formats. Check out Ebay (urgh!) and you can get them for about $120! There is also an added ben...
