Any McIntosh C48 owners out there?
Thanks, Mglenn! I also read the report you mention about the C48 and C50 sounding the same. The Mac guy was Ron Cornelius. Like you, I prefer the 10khz control on the eq. vs the 4khz being used on the others. Thanks for your input. It seems this m...
McIntosh Mx130 question
You answered your own questions in the last paragraph, simply run the cabling as you suggest.
What Product Did You Overspend On?
Although I didn't overspend on this item, I was thoroughly disappointed with the Oppo BDP-83. I know it gets/got great reviews, but the midrange sounded very "thin" to me, and after a couple of weeks, I sold it. This was a used machine, not a new ...
mcintosh MC 7270 or mc 7200
The big difference in the two amps, other than 70 more wpc in the 7270 and it has autoformers, is the 7200 is direct-coupled with no autoformers. Having owned both type amps, I like the 7200, and that is what I currently own. The bass is more soli...
Mcintosh MC 2002 or mc 7200
I have owned both amps, and currently own the 7200. It is a much better sounding amp, and has more oomph in the low end, to my way of thinking. I also hate the autoformers, so this is the Mac amp for me. I doubt that the 2002 was designed by Nelso...
Balanced XLRs to cable RCAs
Maybe you need to let these new cables break in. Signal Cable recommends at least 70 hours of break in time, and I can confirm that after this amount of time, they did sound much better.
Mcintosh MVP871 vs Krell SACD
I have read comments on Audio Review that indeed Mac is using Denon transports. One fellow removed the cover of an 871 and it showed the transport sporting the Denon name. However, the electronics were Mac's own. They are owned by the same company...
McIntosh C42 volume control questions.
Thanks for the responses. Some of the guys on AudioReview were discussing the fact that with the new volume control, much of the time the control had to be cranked very high to get any response from it; and they were wondering if this was normal. ...
McIntosh C42 volume control questions.
I realize I should have included the C41 in the previously used volume control idea. I would like to know if you have to crank the new versions up to 3/4 volume before you get much sound out of it, and whether that leaves much room for increased v...
Can I ground my preamp?
I used to have this problem with big Parasound amps, and the cheater plugs actually did cure the problem. Didn't have to ground any other components, either
4.1 HT?
I've come to the same conclusion a long time ago, and no longer use a center channel. I like many older movies, and I got tired of hearing the sound only coming thru the center speaker when in mono. A center speaker is nice for dialog if you don't...
Velodyne FSX12
I have 2 Velo F-1500R's purchased in 1994, and in all this time, only problem is that the volume cannot be adjusted in either one. They both experienced the problem about the same time, but that is really a minor issue. I'd buy another Velo, but I...
McIntosh MVP871 CD Setup Questions
Isn't your blu-ray player capable of playing SACD's? If so, that's your answer for 6-channel play of SACD's. Then use the 871 for 2-channel only. I had a 861, and I used it for 2-channel. Although I'm into Classical SACD's, and can't speak for Pop...
Should Equalizers make a comeback?
Mac's had equalizers on many of their preamps, and still do, nammely the C42 and C46. I have the 5-band on my C37, and although I don't use it, it's nice to know it's there if I need to use it. Same with the loudness control, never use it either.
Audiophiles are older than dirt
Butch wax was like axle grease, only pink and neutral colored. Great stuff for those flattops! I can remember my first stereo demonstration in assembly when I was a sophmore! How's that for being "old as dirt"! But hey, weren't those the "good ol ...
