$20K to spend on speakers…. . wait! There’s a catch!
I bought my speakers unheard. I didn’t need to listen as the manufacturer is trusted by the likes of Gilmour, Sting and Knopfler. I also had owned smaller versions of the same manufacturers speakers for years. Funnily enough the manufacturer makes...
Soundstage and explosive dynamics?
@vahes  You have an awesome setup - any pics? For years I never understood the grill on the compression tweeter but I know now it is a lens to create horizontal dispersion
Current recording engineers - what cables used?
@maplegrovemusic   +2 Fantastic article.
Dedicated Music server vs Mac mini on a Devialet via Ethernet (AIR) connection
I have not delved into the jitter rejection system on the Chord or Ayre.Unfortunately most methodologies still allow low frequency jitter to affect performance even if all high frequency jitter is rejected and it performs well on the AES test that...
Dedicated Music server vs Mac mini on a Devialet via Ethernet (AIR) connection
@limniscate Ethernet is great so is optical. Optical has perfect galvanic isolation and a jitter immune DAC will just reject the higher jitter on an optical feed. However it all depends on a good DAC. If the DAC works perfectly then it will sound ...
Soundstage and explosive dynamics?
+1 Vahes but I would add that an exponentional horn tweeter can be substituted by a BIG beefy mid range and a conventional tweeter. Horns work great but there are a few powerful non-compression mid drivers out there.
USB Cable Comparison Audience / Cardas / Purist / Stealth / Wireworld
I agree about the big CAVEAT. The Yggdrasil has a less than optimal digital implementation. So your findings may be entirely related to digital problems of the DAC which are influencing your cable preference. If your components worked robustly the...

Room acoustics
@toddverrone I rotated my 3D plot so you can see well the time axis. Your time axis comes almost straight out of the page... Here is a good resource. http://www.bobgolds.com/RT60/rt60.htmIt has a table at the bottm of the page specifying recommend...
Room acoustics
@toddverroneTry to plot RT60 time for various frequencies. In the bass you should aim for less than 1 and around 0.4 over the rest. Also adjacent RT60 times should be similar - so your reverberation needs to be even to sound right and natural. A la...
Is my Cal Audio Sigma II too old?
Yes too old. It might even benefit from a recap. Save up until you have the 2k you need and do it right. Dont compromise and buy sh-t.
high frequency intermittent noise
A choke is an inductor that chokes off high frequencies. The reason I think it is coming from the speakers and back into the Amp is because you have tried other steps. An very strong HF signal hitting the tweeter coil might also cause core saturatio...
high frequency intermittent noise
This RF/EM signal must be picked up by the voice coil in the tweeter and it is likely a powerful megaHz signal and would be inaudible if it didnt cause problems for the amplifier(which tries to surpress distortion with negative feedback so as to m...

Gretsch White Falcon - love the tone - darn heavy though!National Tricone resonator - great for slide Rickenbakker for that jangle soundI just love tone, attack, sustain and crunch
