Opening a can of worms
@hifiman5 The most important dielectric is air! Since air circulates freely around then your wire conductors can NEVER EVER burn-in!Perhaps you should give up this hobby and start hunting for UFOs and aliens.
Most Important, Unloved Cable...
@grannyring There was an open invitation to anyone by Jinijuku to try whatever was proposed/offered in a person's own set up.To bad really. Should have offered some nice Wireword etc. for the test.
New and searching
Start by searching for a great speaker that you really love and go from there. I would be prepared devote up to your full budget on speakers. Deftech is great value but it is far from the last word in audiophile quality.
Soundstage and explosive dynamics?
@kosst_amojan I agree a lot has changed in the market - Meyer, Nexo and Funktion One make great gear for PA. IMHO EAW Anya has the best portable array system currently for stadiums. These days, it is as much about an easily setup and controlled co...
Most Important, Unloved Cable...
If different ethernet cables have audible differences then it stands to reason that IOP will be an even bigger factor. It would not make sense to run listening tests on various ethernet cables without testing such a key factor as IOP at the same t...
Should I buy a new cd player or DAC or both or neither?
Burn your CD collection to hard drive and get a DAC and a Roon and Tidal subscription. Stereophile Class A+ list is a good place to start. CD players are obsolete...
Don't You Just Love It When...
lynrd skynrd mention Neil Young
Soundstage and explosive dynamics?
@buellrider97Consider your journey to capture that sound forever is now over. For a fact, Supertramp went on tour with their own gear - custom speakers using ATC drivers (same as Pink Floyd on tour, Genesis ’78 Trick of the Tail tour). All you nee...
Does a new cd transport require break-in time?
@jea48 Yup. That is why all modern DACs should have complete jitter immunity. Some don't despite 20 years of jitter issues.
Does a new cd transport require break-in time?
Shrill sound? Looks like you have a jitter problem with the Gumby and it prefers the Oppo. Bits are bits but how well a DAC handles jitter is part of the DAC design.
Lowthers midrange: how do they compare?
If you are bulding try to find the Seas Excel 4.5" or 7" magnesium-cone with copper phase plug mid range driver that Joseph RM33 audio use. It measures really well. Linkwitz tested the 7" one and it performs well all round. Trust me you dont want ...
Would you buy a 12-14 year old Integrated?
No. Aging caps is a serious problem especially recently where manufacturing moved from Japan to China.
Need streaming setup help!
Why not get a Mac Mini and install Roon on it. I dont know about the Apple Airport but I know the ASUS AC5300 is as fast as it gets and you only need one. The mac mini will connect on wifi. You wont need an extender with AC5300. I would not tie yo...
Suggestion on XLR Cables
Canare Star Quad L-4E6S is the best you can find, much less than 1K.
Schiit Yggdrasil -- 21 bit?
+1 Almarg - I agree that the statement in the link is rather ambiguous. It isnt clear if it really is greater resolution from the greater bit depth of an additional bit or just a higher signal per bit but still 20 bits...Summing 20 bits + 20 bits ...
