Why is the snake oil topic closed?
@cd318 "It seems criminal that some engineers are working extremely hard to further standards in these areas, often with little financial gain, whilst purveyors of snake oil rake in easy money. "+1 That is so true. What money gets wasted on snake...
My rant; we don't know what we don't know
+1 Definitely. Good sound is available to anyone but you wont find it on the merry-go-round. The merry-go-round is just a reflection of a psychological need and nothing to do with the pursuit of high fidelity. There is a wonderful Agoner that went...
Why does my system now have shrill top end.
Did you damage your speakers? Playing too loud or clipping?
Why does my system now have shrill top end.
Aging equipment (a cap has degraded) or a loose connection.
Why is the snake oil topic closed?
Huh? Quantum mechanics and black holes don't make sense. It all makes total sense to me but I dont go in to the detail of these things with preconceived notions. Einstein made that mistake.
Pre amp with Dac
Benchmark DAC3 or Mytek Brooklyn
What are your general thoughts of B&W speakers
If they are bought out and management fired then it is the beginning of the end for B&W. Like Thiel they will become a lauded name from their past achievements rather than current ones.
Current recording engineers - what cables used?
Agreed. The advice here is excellent. In summary, component equipment is so much more important than cables. Not to say good cables are not important at all, as a good connection and good shielding can really help and low capacitance becomes impor...
Best way to decrease the internal volume of a sealed speaker?
Why not simply get a quantum device from Geoff or an air compliance device from Bybee? Why bother fiddling with foam, glue and other physical stuff and having to open up the speaker. Simply employ one of these quantum mechanical devces to warp the...
Current recording engineers - what cables used?
@nonoise Wire itself is NOT directional. Wires are designed to be non-directional. However, the choice of which end of a shield is grounded can make a difference in some cases. Recall that audio is using alternating current - so any directionality...
The midrange is the most important driver.
Totally agree. For high fidelity the order for greatest importance in a speaker1) Mid range (300 to 3KHz)2) Bass (40 to 400)3) Tweeter (2KHz to 20KHz)For BS hype Speaker marketing it is ALWAYS the tweeter that is emphasized most. This is entirely b...
Current recording engineers - what cables used?
With 60 meters of cable and every half meter making a difference it is wonder you ever get to listen to any music at all. Imagine you have 3 cable manufacturers and 3 possible lengths of each and 3 spots for each cable and EVERY cable, position an...
USB Cable Comparison Audience / Cardas / Purist / Stealth / Wireworld
I agree with dlcockrum about USB cables making a difference if the DAC is not able to fully reject noise, jitter and other parasitic extraneous factors. The rest of his post is close-minded nonsense reflecting a lack of knowledge about digital sig...
Not much discussion around MBL
Dont like the lamela design. These things are designed to flex which is bad news. There must be all kinds of parasitic vibrational modes in those blades.

@chrisr Here is a video of the setuphttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UqP32CeQuUwIt is a 100 foot Victorian houseboat. Van den hul make similar excellent microphone wires like Canare - in a starquad configuration for low noise. Of course they needed v...
