Brooklyn DAC+ Anyone?
@robob I think you will be delighted with the DAC+ it has the ESS 9028 chip and offers all the filter options that come with the chip. Benchmark also bypassed the filters on this chip in order to achieve a more transparent sound but this gives the...
Brooklyn DAC+ Anyone?
@robob I think it is safe to say you will be happy with either DAC. The Benchmark DAC 3 is glitch free on switching formats and syncs within 6 msec which is practically instantaneous.Advantages of DAC3 will be for intersample overs which exist on ...
My apologies_Upgrade path from Wilson WattPuppy 7's?
I concurr - clearly Wilson is not going to take the OP to the next level of enjoyment. I would try Focal - similar bass heavy sound but better driver integration, IMHO. Alternatively, ATC are good at low mid range - in fact most speakers with a cr...
Current recording engineers - what cables used?
Benchmark or Weiss
Why is the snake oil topic closed?
@schubert Your Prof is right. Universities have become big profit centers with large marketing departments. The cost of books and tuition and salaries of those in the administration have sky rocketed in the last three decades. Student debt is at a...
We need DAC's with tone controls and EQ
+1 SteveAlso the latest Weiss DAC has what you are looking for.
What is it that you don't like about your speakers ?
@inna    For 30 years, my speakers had deficiencies so I understand why you are not fully satisfied with your Michael Green speakers. You seem to think box speakers must necessarily be colored and sound like a box. In fact I am surprised you are w...
What is it that you don't like about your speakers ?
Nothing to fault with my speakers in terms of sound except they are a bit awkward to move - extreme weight, magnolia burr gloss finish and elliptical shape contribute to the moving challenge even for piano movers.
Still looking for a DAC I can demo at home. . .
Benchmark DAC 3 - no taste - a neutral DAC that may sound a little more forward in the mids than most "smile" EQd DACs - as resolving as it gets but sounds like vinyl (absolutely no harshness) - "SOTA performance" Stereophile Class A+ - 30 day ret...
why do people feel the need to buy expensive cable
Clearly, the big fat stiff cables are making up for other deficiences in other areas.
Speaker Suggestions
new Paradigm Persona 3F or Revel F208used Focal or Wilson (because resale is important)
Current recording engineers - what cables used?
@boxer12 In the case of a digital coax cable it is carrying the clock signal which is an analog signal. The reconstruction of the analog clock at the other end (in your DAC) is usually through some form of phase locked loop but these systems often...
Best Footers for DAC?
Of course blind tests work. Of course independently verified instrument measurements of performance work. Only scam artists and conmen would claim that independent blind testing doesn’t work and place anecdotal listener experience on a pedestal as...
Ansuz
A coiled cable acts like a choke or an inductor. Similar to air core inductors in many speaker crossovers. This will filter out high frequencies and result in rolled off high frequencies in your audio. This is not desirable for high fidelity. Ferr...
Why does my system now have shrill top end.
Maybe the tweeters are blown or ferrofluid dried out. The ring radiator is crossed over at 1.8KHz so it works very hard.
