Damaged Dome Mid-Range
Shadorne,Am I correct that you suggest that I have enough power and may be over-driving the mids and highs?Yes - if you are sending 90 watts to the mid and tweeter alone then this should be more than enough. You really only need the mega watts fo...
Active Speakers: The usual suspects ....
Keithr,Oh - I am not sure - why not contact Thomas Barefoot and get his opinion - he is careful to say they are "near-fields on steroids" but I don't think he claims these are for far-field use (although I bet they go loud enough for most people)....
Hi end ear buds
I use a pair of HD 25 -II Sennheiser pro broadcast monitoring headphones for electronic drums. These are excellent - one of the best sounding isolating headphones(-17 db isolation and surprisingly comfortable/lightweight when you get used to their ...
Active Speakers: The usual suspects ....
Shadorne- could the MM27s be used 10" apart, sitting 12" back? Sure....I think you could just turn them up anytime you needed to blow dry your hair...Seriously I think NHT Moo or Soo and other much cheaper speakers would be more sensible for a PC...
Damaged Dome Mid-Range
This 2 inch dome is crossed over at 550 Hz. I would suggest you are playing it too loudly (this is not a speaker that can play extremely loud). When you biamp you can send a lot more power to the mid and high. What goes first is just a matter of l...
Want to accept the Harbeth 7's, but...
If you play loud or at close to realistic levels then I doubt the compact speaker can keep up with the Meadowlark's.Nothing wrong with the Harbeth's but basically most good large box three ways are going to defeat a good small box two way in terms...
Laid Back Speakers amps, players etc
Tvad,You are right - not all Silverline are laid back.I was in particular thinking of the "scooped midrange" on these or these. And the harmonics in the bass here, which will add warmth.I have not heard your speakers but they are sometimes favorab...
Stranded vs singal core conductors and skin effect
Musicnoise,I could not agree more with your statement above. We live in a highly unethical modern world of sophisticated snake oil (couched in science). Audio cables are just a tiny microcosm of the problem. You have TV adds now (that governments ...
Laid Back Speakers amps, players etc
Shoe, add Silverline speakers to your list
Source for extent of compression for CD's
Sorry - there is no easy answer or way to measure/define this on CD's, labels. In terms of speakers, go for designs with pro type drivers.
Amp Stands, Butcher Blocks Etc.
Zar,Since you don't appear to have tubes or a TT - vibration control is probably a mute point. Why not go with what the wife wants...I see no reason to go in this direction other than for macho display purposes...just two cents.
UltraNoob: Studio monitors or hi fi speakers?
Is it possible to use hi fi speakers for home recording studio monitors? Upside: Cheap, look niceDownside: Be careful, as you can blow them up very easily with the dynamics from your recordings and live instruments/microphones. ( remember media s...
gallo 3.1 repair
I did blow three mid-drivers when I was hosting a party and we were, ahem, performing karaoke over them. My wife still laughs at the thought of seeing smoke puff from the dust caps mid-peformance. I returned them to Gallo, which confirmed that th...
Current Faves that "Swing"?
I have the Cambridge 840C, and it really IS a terrific player, but it is also a bit rhythmically slow, so a waltz doesn't quite have that ONE-two-three, ONE-two-three rhythm. LOL - rhythm cannot be adjusted. A more dynamic system will allow the a...
Laid Back Speakers amps, players etc
Now, I guess I'm like Shadorne describes--if not a few stages beyond--you young guys can have your "wow" factor...I want my music like a warm bath Exactly. And nothing wrong with that. It is a preference that is totally valid. From what you say I...
