sub+satellite or full range?
A Sat+sub is a great WAF friendly option. If you wall mount the small satellite speakers the wife may be even happier. They can sound very good but integration can be a challenge/headache so I'd recommend you go with one manufacturer for sub and s...
16K to Spend. Help me make the end all Upgrade.
Baraeryo,For a modest dual purpose space and given WAF considerations you might do well to consider small high quality two ways and a powered sub. You could wall mount the speakers to conserve space and you only need space for the sub.

Bob,Good point. In a way it all often amounts to "insurance". If your engineering minded then XLR balanced "insures" you a better sound because you know it has theoretically better noise rejection and immunity from RF/EM. In reality RCA is often s...
Anyone going Phantom Center Channel?
Just remember unless you use the exact same speaker for the center as you do for the mains - then it is automatically a form of compromise....for a single viewer or a couple on a sofa well back from the speakers then Phantom is the lesser of evils...

I just thought I should post that I never determined whether hanging the amp with bungee chords made any difference. Glad to hear you didn't find an audible improvement - perhaps my ears aren't so bad after all. I get the impression from many pos...
Cable elevators - conventional wisdom wrong?
Cables are suspended in electrical power lines because they are not insulated. Air is the insulator. They use high voltages which tend to breakdown insulation jackets and the whole approach is just cheaper than more costly cables for long distance...
cd player with balanced outputs
You could go with a DAC and a Sony Mega changer. That is what I do. my DSP has one of those upsampling 192KHz DACs with all the bells and whistles. I just feed the megachanger toslink to the DSP in my case. I don't have great ears though and I can...
Good match for Anthem AVM 30
I like Bryston. All your suggestions are good options - are you planning to use all XLR - in which case you should get a power amp that has XLR inputs.
Downgrading... Is it possible??? Suggestions
You have such awesome gear it will be very tough to downgrade, IMHO. If you don't spend time in the sweetspot then something with wide dispersion or omnidirectional is in order - hard to say without any pics of your setup.
Anyone going Phantom Center Channel?
Yep - me too - if your speakers image well then no problem at all - it will actually sound better than having a center on the floor or above the TV as you won't mess up the image from the mid/treble frequencies from your mains, which will be at to...
Just how big is that driver?
For cone drivers, size may be the outside diameter of the frame, the diameter of the surround, or the diameter of the cone.
Audiophile systems of awe.
When if ever did you hear a setup that defied the laws of physics in sound reproduction.Me never but others do - all the time...
Paradigm vs Dali vs PMC
not a big gripe I suppose If you look at the plot the woofer breakup is only 10 db down...this should have been eq'd out more aggressively. I would be very wary of that...it looks as if it will be audible. I haven't heard them so I can't say for s...

Clearly, we hear differently. I hear major differences between one room and another, one concert hall and another....others don't.I hear major differences between one speaker and another....others don't.I hear only subtle differences between digit...

From just a distortion perspective, speakers do several orders of magnitude more damage to the signal that decent electronics. Factor in room interaction and it's a no- brainer where the emphasis needs to be. I quite agree - it is a no brainer re...
