New Build
I have not yet picked up the G2's but can get them for $400. Are the Kinima's that bad? I don't have direct experience but the look of them and the design got me very worried. A quick google indicate that there are some unhappy customers of their ...
Cable Burn In Problem
Saxo,I really sympathize with your problem but there is really is no way that anything other than playing all the equipment for 100 hours properly all hooked up (exactly as it would be in the music listening real situation) and also with the parti...
Do you need full-range speakers with great subs?
I would not advise this - that 3" polydome mid was discontinued - it won't play loud enough for you space requirements - you will suffer terrible midrange compression and difficulty to hear dialogue on movies in such a large space or worse you wil...
New Build
You should seriously consider auditioning other (better) speakers before further upgrades, IMHO.
Damaged Dome Mid-Range
Eldartford,Thanks - you are correct. A good power amp would have power rails around +/-75 volts or more. It is indeed possible that the Denon 2803 HT Receiver has much less - however I doubt it would be less than +/-50 Volts. This could be a probl...
How much money on speaker cable?
To put things in perspetive - $600 is probably way more than the cost of the components (drivers and crossover) in your speakers. There is actually a greater length of wire in your speaker voice coils than your speaker cables anyway. For example, $...
why don't I like it??
Sorry to hijack this thread - as it might not be a problem of badly recorded music - it was just a suggestion of mine. However, CD Loudness and audio compression of music or simply put crap music is a MUCH bigger issue than most people realize.Here...
Lifespan of Power amps
It's the capacitors. Caps last around 20 years. If you replace them BEFORE they die/break/explode, you'll have another 20 years. Agree 100%. Electrolytic Capacitors are a fact of life in amplifiers, tube or solid state. They last about 20-25 year...
why don't I like it??
What do you think? It might be the music itself is to harsh. Do a google on CD Loudness wars. I am not sure how far back you are referring to with your old roomate...in the 80's and early 90's a lot of rock music sounded very good. Since the mid ...
Easy to drive large speakers for Rock & Roll?
I second Dr Joe.
Kharma's 3.2FE or Reference 3A Grand Veena's
Forget the specs - they both look stunning!
Damaged Dome Mid-Range
Actually, it's the peak voltage that's needed, and it may not persist long enough to represent much power. I agree that voltage is needed - some good MOSFETs should be all that is needed though and voltage is a lot easier ti supply than high amou...
Buying a 10 years old loudspeaker
Clavil,Many speakers can be easily damaged by being overdriven - and it does not always result in catastrophic failure but could mean you have a tweeter that sounds like there is "sand" in it - some have been blown up and may have been repaired in...
Want to accept the Harbeth 7's, but...
If the Harbeths are close to the wall(s), you might try moving them out away from the walls and see if that helps. Early reflections and/or too much boundary reinforcement can muddle the sound.Good point. I heard them in a demo and they were setu...
Magico Mini 2 vs Kharma Midi Exquisit vs MBL 101s
Ceramic drivers do sound dry, and ring a bit at high volumes, esp when partnered with wrong equipment usally SS amps I agree - what you say is "generally" true of rigid light weight drivers, however, as Mike points out - the C79/6 accutons are ex...
