Widening Soundstage I'd try to get the listening position a bit further away and free from any reflective surfaces. This might require placing your speakers closer to the wall behind them, which may be challenging for the bass (EQ perhaps or experiment with a sub).
The best "imaging" speakers? that exaggerated vibratto, I really loved it A trumpet player calls this "sizzle" - it is a complex form of non-harmonically related overtones that metal horned instruments can generate...and I agree with you Harry James has awesome "sizzle".The ...
production or reproduction why try to achieve perfect reproduction when it doesn't exist ? Could not agree more. Besides if "reproduction" is imperfect then it simply the best excuse to practice it that much more often! (headaches not withstanding)
DIY speaker wire: does insulation matter? I'm with Al it should not matter enough to worry about. As some have mentioned wire geometry can have a small effect - especially placing wires far far apart (best place them close together). Twisting wires is most important for small signals into...
The best "imaging" speakers? Lrsky,Harry Kames Sheffield has realitistic dynamics - I am not surpised it compared well to the real thing. MOst o fteh problem with playback is the way the studios compress the music for distribution to the public (especially true of drums which...
Extra long runs of Digital coax? It is preferable to use optical for longer runs but I suggest you try coax first and see. optical cannot pick up any stray RF/EM noise from equipment. Anyway you'll know pretty soon if it doesn't work as you'll get errors.
Sub output: Is it the woofer size or the rated RMS I'd add that long throw tends to rely on long coils and you get less driver control. The relationship between back EMF and inductance is a factor. Long throw designs of any size (even the TC sounds monster drivers) tend to have less control ("brak...
Dream System For gear alone (neglecting room) that would be beyond my needs. I don't think it is necessary to spend that much.
Sub output: Is it the woofer size or the rated RMS It seems to me that a bigger, thicker, heavier cone would have reduced "compliance," if that is the right term, and therefore require a greater degree of damping than a smaller, lighter cone. Why would bass damping be independent of this? Good po...
Best Speakers under USD 2,000 Second Hand Price Horns. Preferably something BIG.
You're probably listening too loud BTW - odd harmonics somehow tells our ears/brain that it is loud - so adding compression can make something sound subjectively much louder. This is why the teenage daughter with the tiny PC speakers cranked can sound unbearably loud (distorted) wh...
You're probably listening too loud with many rock and other popular recordings distortion is introduced both intentionally You bet it is. Nearly everything is compressed which naturally adds odd harmonic distortion (square wave is all odd harmonics). The terrible masking that occu...
Sub output: Is it the woofer size or the rated RMS the ability of the cone to stop quickly when the input signal stops? That would be system Q or damping. An overdamped design would be extremely inefficient (low SPL output at 20 Hz) with a small woofer in a small box.Compare a WAF friendly produc...
Sub output: Is it the woofer size or the rated RMS Interesting debate. IMHO, there is no question that a larger well built subwoofer will sound better than than ten small cheap ones sharing a box. The issue is that the single large woofer may cost up to $2K! Most high quality 15" subs are expensiv...
Most agreed upon best speaker? But, I've never heard a horn sound quite right,(to my ears obviously) in terms of just raw staging. What is it that I'm missing? And which horns can and do stage accurately? Perhaps it is the narrow dispersion pattern that gets you. To produce co... |
