Bass trapping question
If you straddle the corner with an impermeable barrier like the back of a bookcase then you have created a helmholtz tube resonator - the 703 behind the bookshelf will broaden the Q of the trap. I'd definitely take some before and after measuremen...
what does everybody think about 120hz and lcd's
LCD is poor compared to a a great Plasma. (I have both and there is absolutely no contest - despite all the marketing BS about contrast ratios)
Your Best HiFi DVD
Good suggestions above. Try also Black Eyed Peas Live from Sydney to Vegas - the Sydney concert is excellent quality with Keith Harris doing an awesome job on drums. (This concert is very dynamic and can be played extremely loud - so it is NOT for...
Audio/TV rack recommendations?
Since you have tubes (these are microphonic) you should try to enclose them to reduce airborne vibrations - so the glass you had was probably a good thing - although placing them inside wooden cabinets might be even better. The best place would be...
active X-over
At least if your test provides a null result it will have been worth it - just the peace of mind knowing you are not short changing yourself with pre. I have done tons of of A/B testing and it helps to use the remote and to try and do things blind...
Most accurate sub under 1,500 used
JL F113 or SVS PB ultra 13. Take your pick. these are both very good (low distortion) above 40Hz. The SVS will be more musical with at least two of the ports plugged (lower group delay). The JL F113 is musical from the get go.
Why the Blues Really Hit The Spot
Lightning in a Bottle DVD is worth getting. I'd also recommend Keb 'Mo - excellent quality recordings. Oh and Stones earliest stuff (remastered by Bob Ludwig)
Best Diana Krall album...........is???
I don't own a single Diana Krall album. Any suggestions on where to begin? Good for you! I have several albums and only ever played them once. I find it very puzzling why she is so popular. My loss I guess - try as I might I simply don't get it -...
active X-over
I think the only way to tell would be to take some measurements. I don't think I tell purely by ear. Typically the biggest problem in full range free standing speakers is the broad suckout somewhere between 100 and 300 HZ - it can be a real devil ...
Frequency Response Measurement Question
I'd suggest to check your bass management - perhaps settings were not identical as you first thought. As for high frequencies, these are quite location dependent - is it possible you moved the meter a few inches between measurements?
Your Favourite Remix Albums/CDs
Synthfreek,Did you ever play Myst (the game)- I listened to the links you gave and it immediately made me thing of the Myst soundtrack. Awesome sound.
AC Power Line Conditioners
The APC is designed to work with power amps, analog and digital sources (separate AC outlets for each) at $149 it is a no brainer.
Your Favourite Remix Albums/CDs
Try also Classic Alternatives 12" Rare Extended Retro Hits which has such a nice selection of rare extended mixes.Any anything from Hi-Bias Records Inc. in Canada - these guys have audiophile ears - very nice mastering.
Emerald Physics: Same as the Quads in the fifties?
Shadorne, I like your suggestion a lot. In fact, I own a pair of Piquet-restored ESL 57, which are "only" 35 years old. Exactly my point, if it were still manufactured today then it would be truly revolutionary, as it is i t had a good run! Time ...
How can you not have multichannel system
One thing that many of you critics of multi-channel forget is that Mig007 has matched speakers...IMHO, if you use different speakers that were not specifically intended and voiced (matching timbre) to work together in a multi-channel system then y...
