Audiophile speakers that rock well
ATC Monitors are popular with studios that produce a lot of rock - try to audition the SCM19 - small but plays surprisingly loud. You will need a beefy amp though.
Regarding ATC SCM19 speakers...
They do 60 Hz to 12Khz really well - especially reknown for the midrange clarity and tight precise bass (sealed box design). So if you like precision...However, you can get a lot more bass extension/speaker for the same money - Revel Concerta F12 ...
oppo bdp-83se vs oppo bdp-83
I an interested in the answers to this thread. I would suspect that the Panasonic BDP-85K would be an option (Wolson DAC and low jitter circuitry) - although it may not be quite up to the video performance of the Oppo 83.
Digital out... does source matter?
Digital signals arry a clock timing signal. Unless you get a DAC that is immune to jitter (asynchronous type have become common in the last five years) then it can matter what your digital source is.

The PMC website has an impressive "key client list".And PMC used ATC midrange for years and recently their own clone of ATC's three inch mid dome design. So two of the more popular studio monitor designs happen to share the same mid range (and cro...

I missed Chandos in the list above - like I said - most everything done recently.
classical label monitors
Sony, Warner, Polygram, Naxos, Telarc, EMI, Colombia, DeccaParamount, Nimbus, Sain, Sentinel, ECM, Virgin, Hyperion etc. use ATC - you can find a partial list here here - it is likely that about one third of your modern classical collection (last ...
Why not horns?
Bass is pretty much omnidirectional until about 500 Hz. Running even a 15 inch woofer to 400 Hz should be fine. Please refer to the Chart 3-6 in this manual (kind of a bible for horns)
What is Musicality?
I can't describe it but I know when I hear it.
Distortion problem
You may need to replace the tweeters. Piano can be tough for tweeters.
Best Dac with USB input for $1,000 or less
There's probably better DACs and worse DACs but the Benchmark does a good job... at least in my system. And that's coming from a 40 year analog guyAgreed. It is great value. Of course it works best with very neutral equipment - so it only fits wit...
