Best '80s/'90s pop
Are you looking to buy some compilations.Old School Nation series by Hi-Bias is good - very well mastered.I also like the Ben Liebrand Grand 12 Inches series (lots of extended mixes)Another good one is Richard Blade's Flashback Faves series. After ...
Why not horns?
Ralph, I would agree - they are at their very best in farfield applications (12 feet+). This allows the narrower dispersion to better integrate with the room. Horns are outstanding in larger rooms and large venues - in these applications they can ...
Why not horns?
Horns have unexploited potential. Lets get busy harvesting their potential. Most other options seem to have reached their limits long ago Horns are great. They are the BEST solution for many applications. However, you cannot dismiss other options s...
What song/album best showcases your system?
If you have not heard of these guys then check 'em out - their albums are well recorded.
What song/album best showcases your system?
I'm with Eric - something with some good bongos, percussion or a world class drummer!for example - this is classic 80's high quality pop production or this live recording has tremendous dynamics and what a grooveFrankly though, I don't give a hoo...
Why not horns?
I find this interesting as the baffle in the "soffit mount" is what gives you the 6db of gain. I should add "in the bass region" which is where it is nearly impossible to keep distortion low at high SPL's.You get even more bass SPL gain by placin...
Why not horns?
I have yet seen or heard any speaker which can play loud with such low 0.3% THD. ATC claim this on their highest end designs such as the SCM300 while playing at 121 dB SPL (definitely loud). I am skeptical that they can actually achieve this down...
Why not horns?
The very best horn designs run at about 3% THD when played loud and this will distortion is audible and in treble. Conventional non-horn designs can play loud at 0.3% THD and often much lower in the treble - pretty much inaudible. You are talking a...
General PC Audio Set-Up Question
I use a LaCie 2TB 2big drive (two 1 TB drives in RAID 1) - after months of ripping CD's I decided I wanted backup. I also have a small portable drive. There are many ways to do it and they almost all work very well but my advice would be to ensure...
Can Frequency Sweeps Damage Speakers?
Provided you do not exceed 100 db SPL at 1 meter you should be ok for most well built full size speakers. Remember that the majority of expensive speakers actually use extremely cheap drivers (high quality veneer and woodwork can be very expensive...
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers "The Live Anthology"
Take a listen.Absolutely awesome shuffle by Stan Lynch.
Best active speaker
Another factor you should look into is that ATC don't put a lot of emphasis on cabinet resonance control. The freestanding set of ATC's that Pink Floyd use have additional bracing inside. Many studios soffit mount them. What really bothers me is A...
Best active speaker
ATC specs are conservative (freestanding in open space). You certainly do not get "quantity" from ATC bass - their design is only about quality and approaching the performance of electronics in terms of distortion. The 150's are probably around 0....
Worst Rock Band Ever !!!!
I know - the Wurzels...
Active speakers. What to choose?
A deposit is your commitment for the dealer to hold an item for you. The dealer is within his/her right to keep it and offer you nothing else in exchange (unless you agreed differently up front). The fact the dealer agrees to sell you something el...
